Pregnant?

I was about 2 weeks late, so I took a home pregnancy test. It came back negative. I took one about two days later and it was negative as well. I took three more, one came back negative, two postive. The next day, I had the doctor check things out and he did a simple urine test. He said that I was pregnant because you can not have a false positive. Well, about a week later I started having really bad cramps in my lower back and stomach. I then started my "period" and it was aweful. I was clotting really bad and had it for about 6 days (I usually only menstrate for about 3). Is it possible that I have had a miscarriage? Should I go see the doctor again, or is this normal?

Yeah, sounds like it. That's exactly how it happened with me, many years ago, at about 2 weeks pregnant. Early miscarriages are very common. My second one took hold and I now have a 7 year old.

I'm afraid this does sound like an early miscarriage. I think you should see a doctor again, and explain what happened. If it was a SA, you'd need to know.

When I was pregnant, the doctor told me I should call him right away if I felt any cramps during the first trimester, so I guess cramps are not a good indication. You should definitely see your doctor.

Hi, Amanda.

Statistically, 10% of all pregnancies self-terminate this way. IF you are trying to GET pregnant, start by reading Dr Airola's book "Every Woman's Book" (available at amazon.com) and both you and the putative father need to start improving your capacity for a pregnancy about 2 years prior to contraception.

Dr. Stoll,

Has the situation changed? Six months or longer ago when I was trying to find this book there was nowhere to get it even at Amazon.com used.

Thanks

I just ordered the book from Amazon, a used copy since I couldn't find a new one. I can't wait to read it, since I hope to get pregnant in a year or so.

Hi P,

Sometimes you have to keep checking back for used books, since the ones that are in demand come in and go out quickly. Other online booksellers may also have it, like bn.com, powells.com, half.com, etc. I know Powell's (in Portland, OR) will set up a wish list for you, and will e-mail you when your titles come in, either new or used. Then you have to hurry and order it before someone else does.

Here's a link to the current search page on this title at amazon.com. Looks like there are a lot of inexpensive copies available right now. Your public library could also get you a copy through interlibrary loan if they don't have it on the shelf.

Wishing you the best,
Nutmeg

Thanks, P.

I have been getting accountings that say amazon.com is still selling copies. I am not associated with the publisher so I do not know if it is still in print although I would be very surprised if it was not.

I had two miss' before - and my first one I ended up the next month getting pregnant and now we are celebrating her 13th birthday soon.

I have two beautiful children. I didn't change a thing between the pregnancies, so I always took it as some outside variable that was different; not my health per se.

As far as your loss, I am so sorry. I realize it was a part of you that literally passed, and a life of some level.
Allow yourself to mourn a bit.
