baby tooth injury

Posted by Dee on December 29, 1998 at 10:34:01:

Dr.Stoll-Last night,my 3 year old hit her 2 front teeth on
our hardwood floor. I immediately took her to the dentist.
The dentist examined and took an x-ray. He said there was
an injury to the tooth's pulp and that within a week her
2 teeth would tighten up and be functional. However, he said within 2-3 weeks the teeth will begin to discolor. He
said the good news was the injury will not affect her permanent teeth. Is there anything I can do to stop the
discoloration?? Thank you as always for your time and consideration. Dee

Hi Dee--

My youngest smacked her tooth and had it discolor. It eventually went white again (be sure and feed the child well to encourage the tooth health). It probably depends on how severely grey it turns. Just wanted you to know that discoloring wasn't permanent in my daughter's case. Mary J.

Hi, Dee.

Be happy that these are not her permanent teeth.

The discoloration means that the tooth has died.

I know of nothing that will bring a tooth back to life. However, the "bonding" that dentists are doing now would make the teeth look normal till they fall out with her second teeth coming in.

If $ is no object, talk to your dentist about it.

Hi, Mary.

Just goes to show that I should not try to give out dental information!

I had never heard of any tooth that got discolored coming back from the dead. Apparently the discoloration does NOT mean that the tooth is dead although dentists have always told me that.

Since I know now that the discolored tooth is just injured seriously, I will be recommending a perfect diet and antioxidents to reduce damage & increase the potential for healing.

Namaste` Walt

Dr.Stoll- When you write a "perfect diet"-do you mean the
whole food diet?? And, I've seen antioxidents in capsule
form at the stores. Is there any child-friendly form available? Thank you...as always. Your help is most appreciated.

Yes, Dee, I do mean the whole foods diet.

The reason for this is that we are discovering new essential trace micronutrients almost every month, now, that seem to be essential for a muman being to be as healthy as s/he can be. These new essential nutrients have not yet been added to supplements. However, even if they were, what about the ones that will be discovered NEXT month???? We are not yet as smart as God and until we are, eating a whole foods diet with those micronutrients still in them is the best we can do.

Usually, those antioxident capsules" have too small doses to be as effective that something like this would need to be to be optimally effective.

I would use esterified vitamin C and mixed tocopherols vitamin E.

Walt
