Hi, I have a concerned about the diagnosis I had just received from my doctor, who is currently on vacation. A CT Scan showed that I had Mild Hydronephrosis, an obstruction was shown. It suggested an IVP test should be done, which was not done. He went straight into surgery. There was no obstruction but there were polyps seen, which was removed. The surgery showed that an artery was leaning against my ureter. My question is Can an IVP show the same thing without going into surgery? He also mentioned that I would be on medication for a long time. Why? Is this a bad diagnosis? What's the long term effect? Are the medications worth taking. Will this diagnosis be really be bad for my kidneys? They said I was born this way, is this hereditary? I just had a baby 9mos ago. I have several problems after I had him this one of them. He told me if I get pregnant again I would go through this vicious cycle again. The cyle would be that and to bleed for long time with periods. Sorry to ask so many questions. Just concerned. Thank You

Dear Terri,
The IVP would have not done anything but show the doc where the narrowing was and that was accomplished by the surgery. The IVP would not have prevented the need for the surgery.
This will NOT be repeated with a pregnancy. However, there is a reference that I would recommend you read at least 2 years before you get pregnant again (father too). It has just been re-released again and is available in any bookstore, library and amazon.com. This is Dr Paavo Ariola's classic: "Every Woman's Book".
Since the information contained therein would also get rid of the need for continuing to take the medication, I would start there while continuing to follow your doc's recommendations.
You will know when to branch out on your own.
THEN, if you still have questions, write again.
Let us know what you learn.
Walt

Dear Dr. Stoll,
Thank you for the quick response. The book you recommanded I will get it but I don't have two years to wait before I get pregnant. Because I had bleeding up to 5 to 6 mos. I was told by my OB that I had to get all my child bearings before my son turns 2 years old. He is now 9 mos old. They finally stop the bleeding after I received a shot which did not work, than the tried D and C with laproscopy which they found out I was carrying twins one was inbedded in my uterus, and now they put me on Orthocept which finally stop the bleeding. After I have my baby they are going to do a hysterectomy. I apreciate the help. You have at least help answer my questions more than my doctor did.
Thanks,
Terri

Dear Terri,
Every DAY that you follow the information in Dr Airola's book will help.
Every day that the father uses that information, prior to conception, will help.
It is just that the ideal, for the most effect, is 2 years prior to conception.
