Dear Dr. Stoll: Have you ever heard of "Help Syndrome"? A friend of mine went into labor 7 weeks early because she was getting migraine headaches and high blood pressure. The doctors diagnosed her with Help Syndrome. What's this all about? Thanks!

C.J. My daughter had this also and the way it was described to her was pre-eclampsia. Her child had to be taken 7 weeks early. She more then likely is starting to run low platelets, and elevated liver enzymes. Good luck. Dave

Hi, CJ.
I have never heard it called that. However, what you are describing is pre-eclampsia. Since it is now generally known that this syndrome is mostly caused by serious intracellular magnesium it is a shane that it still happens.
We physicians have routinely treated this, when it gets so bad it is an emergency, with massive doses of injected magnesium sulfate. This when any idiot can see the problem.
When allopathic medicine decides to start preventing stuff like this, rather than waiting until it is an emergency, they will start magnesium supplements early in pregnancy.

Dr. Stoll: I just heard that my friend's Help Syndrome was a form of toxemia. Is this the same as pre-eclampsia? I thought toxemia was more serious, and how do you get toxemia? Thanks for any info!

Hi, CJ.
Like all chronic conditions, they exist in a continuum from the tiniest indication (which most conventional physicians miss) all the way up to the frank convulsions and death which any idiot can diagnose as eclampsia. A good doc will find this while it is still pre-eclampsia. This is the major reason for prenatal examinations and checking blood pressure at every visit.
Hope this helps.
Walt
