Spider veins and pregnancy

Posted by akajack on March 28, 2001 at 16:05:22:

Thank you for taking the time to read my message. My question is: Is it okay to take 1000 of Vitamin E while you are pregnant?, what about horsechestnut? What about support hose-I have some perscribed that do have support all the way up and I know you suggest not to do this, Where can I get the support hose that only go up to the knee and have no toe or heel? Also if I don't wear any support hose will my spider veins get worse? I've also noticed that some days my veins are a lot visible than other days.Do you know what can cause this or is it just my imagination?

Thanks for any info.

Hi, akajack.

Vitamin E is safe. I do not have any experience with horsechestnut.

If it were me, I would not worry about the spider veins until after the pregnancy was over and THEN I would see the dermatologist who knows how to eliminate them with laser therapy.

There is no evidence I know of that says any kind of support will help or prevent spider veins. You can get the stockings you are looking for at any surgical supply house.

It is NOT your imagination.

Hope this helps.

Walt
