one more question re pregnancy & skin irritation.

Posted by sarahw on June 24, 2001 at 19:48:43:

I almost forgot to mention one other thing that I think is really strange. Every night for the last two weeks I've developed a skin rash where I lay on my hair. I have really long hair, but every time it touches my back or shoulders I start itching. I don't actually develop a rash until I lay on it overnight. Then I wake up with a red rash that looks like poison oak. By noon it's usually gone, but the itching still persists. I've tried using different shampoos and conditioners, but nothing has done any good. Also, I don't usually wear my wedding ring because it is so huge on my tiny fingers, and has lots of diamonds on it that can get caught in my hair when I brush it. I noticed the other day when I went to put it on, that my finger underneath it got swollen and also developed itchy red bumps. Four hours after I took it off, it completely went away. Could all this skin sensitivity be caused from my pregnancy too?

Sarhaw....Why don't you give this URL a try...It is a wonderful bulletin board that covers pregnancy...and several other topics associated w/ trying to get pregnant and the labor itself. I think you will find it very helpful in finding answers to your questions. My husband and I have been trying for 4 months to conceive our 3rd child and I have learned so much.

by the way...once you get to this site scroll to the bottom and click on "Return to categories" this will take you to the page that lists all the bulletin board topics. There is one called "Already Pregnant"...I think the pregnant women on this site should be able to offer you tons of advice. Good Luck! Let me know how you like the site...I am always found on the "Am I pregnant" board...at least until I conceive...maybe this will be the month ;o)

Hi, sarahw.

Pregnancy can be one of the great warning lights on your dashboard. The "stress" of growing a new being, within your own body, frequently exposes something that is coming in the future even without pregnancy. It means lowered reserves to cope with whatever is showing up.

Your symptoms are classical for developing MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity). I hope I am wrong! Now is the time to start learning as much as you can about that.

Let us know what you learn from the archives.

Walt

I've just started going through the archives, and hopefully I will find something there that will help me. Unfortunately with four little kids running around, I may not get to all of it until next year. My main question is this...do you think this could be something serious, or will it just go away with my pregnancy? The MCS archives reminded me of something else. For the last few years I have been unable to get dish soap on my hands. If I do, I can literally taste it for the next hour. I told my husband and my mom-in-law about it, but they thought it was about the craziest thing they had ever heard of. How would I have the taste of dish soap appear in my mouth? So, I haven't mentioned it to anyone since then. I also do not wear perfume, and my eyes water non-stop when I walk into a room that has been "deodorized" recently. Am I just nuts?

Hi, sarahw.

Sometimes I amaze even myself! You have just proven my initial impression right!

Your symptoms MAY go away with the pregnancy but eventually they will not go away and this may be the time.

Learn all you can from the archives and the lay organization in the archives (CIIN) and start getting rid of the causes of your condition. This is going to be a lifetime thing and right now "This is as good as it gets." However get rid of your causes and you may be symptom free in a couple of years.

Walt
