Pregnancy and Hemmoroids

Posted by Scout on September 07, 2001 at 10:36:46:

I am 32 years old. Have been fighting hemmoroids on and off for about two years now...they have been very painful and mainly external (thus the unbearable pain). Dr.'s think its stress/diet related. Have finally been able, by keeping a food journal, to figure out some of the "triggers" and am taking Citrisil every night before bed along with medicated suppositories to help continue the healing process. I still need to work on the stress part, but thankfully have felt terrific for about a week now.
Anyhow, husband and I are thinking about starting a family. I have heard about those who never had hemm's getting them when they get pregnant. What about us who have a history of them? Am I certain to get them or could there be still be a chance that I will be o.k. during but perhaps may aggrivate the dormant hemm's when I go into labor (which is fine with me as long as I don't suffer with them for 9 months prior!)Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thank you!

Hi, Scout.

Pregnancy is a great contributing cause for hemorrhoids since it blocks the venous return and increases the prossure in ALL the veins of the lower half of the body. SO, unless you get rid of your other causes, BEFORE getting pregnant, you are going to have a terrible time.

What did you learn from the archives about hemorrhoids?

I have never had hemoroids until now. I had a baby 4 months ago and that caused the onset of these terrible creatures. I am in constant pain and have not found any relief.

I never had hemmoroids before I gave birth and now, five years later I have them worse than ever. I have been managing them with diet and OTC medication. However, at times they are nearly unbearable.
