Hi Hopeful, Ron and the gany,

I realy thought I was improving on the low oxalate diet. But the gynocologist has just called to say I have a UTI...enterococcus infection ..at least it is sensitive to macrodantin which I can tolerate...I am seeing the gynocologist tomorrow to find out.

Hanging in there...keeping up SR and other legs ...so will stic

k with the diet.....I know it is helping because for the first time in a year I have normal poohs..not runny so maybe it will help my gut..the antibiotics wont....have the expensive brand you suggested Hopeful being delivered in a week so will start after the antibiotics...what a slog..

Hi Cher,

Did they tell you whether the enterococcus is from your own gut or from a partner?
It may require that both of you are treated to prevent reinfection... but if it is from the prostate, a week of Macrodantin probably won't be enough.

How depressing....they said it is acending probably from the gut coming up the urethra possibly from the thrush I had lowering my resistance. I go round and round. At this rate I will never get on those probiotics. My urine soy broth cultures have been negative for months. Will keep you posted

Cher

Sheridan,
Be careful with the antibiotic therapy. I would still recommend Natren's dairy-free Bifidus to fight your UTI/thrush.

The Benefits of Probiotics Beyond Digestive Health

Meet Susan Lark, MD, one of America’s leading medical doctors and specialists in women’s health and natural healing. She is the author of 11 best-selling books on women’s health and the editor of the women’s popular monthly newsletter, Women’s Wellness Today, with over 125,000 subscribers.

Dear Susan,
Your body carries around nearly four pounds of bacteria and fungi (both friendly and unfriendly) that live inside your colon. When these microorganisms coexist harmoniously and the “good guys” are in control, your health thrives. But when the balance of power shifts to the “bad guys,” unpleasant problems, like yeast infections and diarrhea, can result.
So how can you boost the number of good guys in your gut? The answer is simple: Take probiotics every day.
You probably know that taking supplemental probiotics is invaluable for boosting the good bacteria for your digestive system and vaginal health. But you probably aren’t aware of the countless other benefits of probiotics, including liver, kidney, and bladder protection—and even hormone balancing! There are not many supplements—or medications, for that matter—that have such wide-ranging health benefits.
In the March issue of Women’s Wellness Today, I tell you about several probiotic benefits that you probably weren’t aware of, including:
• Two probiotic strains that virtually eliminate harmful E. coli bacteria from your urinary tract, which in turn helps prevents urinary tract infections and kidney problems.
• This family of probiotics that improves the function of your hardest-working organ—your liver.
• A probiotic supplement that helps prevent the recycling of “used” estrogen in your body, and thus, reduces the risk of hormonal imbalance.
• This brand of probiotics containing the two best strains of beneficial bacteria that protect your kidneys, bladder, vaginal tract, and digestive tract.
• This specialized strain, available in an exclusive drink found in health food stores, which reduces the risk of bladder cancer and boosts cancer-destroying “natural killer” cells in people who have cancer!
• Four types of cultured foods that are the best food sources of probiotics. If eaten every day, you can significantly boost the number of beneficial bacteria in your system.
• The fact that taking probiotics with these naturally occurring carbohydrates (abundant in onions, leeks, asparagus, and bananas, and also available in supplement form) can stimulate the growth of more good guys—and also boost their survival.

Sure. You want to take it several hours between antibiotic dosages.
