The Many Benefits of Probiotics - Video

Posted by PhillyLady [1262.4558] on June 02, 2008 at 21:23:15:

Here is an educational video that Swanson Vitamins emailed me in their newsletter.

Probiotic Pioneer, Dr. Shahani, talks about the many benefits of probiotics. Some of the benefits explained are:

. Cancer inhibitor
. Lowers blood lipid levels
. Augments immune response
. Promotes healthy skin and helps heal skin disorders
. Assists in metabolism of nutrients
. ...and more

Hey Philly,

Does it take awhile to load? I can't get it go play. It looks like it is
working but the vid never starts.

I just bought a book on this subject about a week ago. Haven't
started it yet.

I know probiotics have done a world of good for me.

It should play immediately. I don't know why it's not playing on your computer. Slow connection maybe?

What gets me is the research on this was done about 100 years ago, but it's taken that long for mainstream society to start to adopt this wisdom.

Thank you for posting this. I was about to post a question about probiotics when I saw this post. A God sent. I have never taken probiotics but would like to begin. One post on the archives suggests iFlora and Kyo-Dophilus. Does Swanson Vitamins make a good probiotic?

Hi Sylvia:

Swanson's makes probiotics and they also sell other brands. Many are good, depending on what you are looking for. You might want to check out their selection:-)

Here's the Acidophilus DDS-1 which was mentioned in the video. I've never tried it though...

Thank you so much. I did take a look at their website yesterday. Was just wondering if you recommend one over the other. It is an individual choice, though (vegi/kosher etc.) Thanks again. Very good video!

Thank you. I took some notes as I watched the video, and DDS-1 Lactobacillus Acidophilus was among them. I took antibiotics for the first time in 12 years, and boy did it throw my good intestinal bacteria out of balance.

Sylvia:

I have no special preference, but usually buy "Multidophilus" from Solaray.

For a while I took Reuteri from Nature's Way. I believe the L-Reuteri bacteria is a human-based culture that was derived from human breast milk. I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to recall (will have to check).

Thank you, PhillyLady. This really helps. I took antibiotics a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 12 years. Tried to avoid them, but I was really sick. As a result, my good intestinal bacteria is off balance. I am experiencing tummy troubles that I didn't have before taking the meds. I'm slowly coming back to life but think it's a good idea to start taking probiotics or "for life" as the doctor in the video states ;-)
