my second Rolfing

i visited the freaky rolfer for the second time yesterday. just a few brief words now...nothing too detalied at the moment.

in the first visit, we worked on the lungs/ribs/breathing generally.

this time, we worked on the feet and lower legs. the rolfer facilitated ;-) my realization that i stand leaning foward ALL THE TIME. ofcourse this has seriously ill effects, especially over time. indeed, one thing that my chiropractor advised me to be mindful of was pulling my head/neck back to restore the chiphoid (sp?) curve. well, a broader view from the perspective of rolfing and movement therapy revealed that my neck/head fall much more neatly into place while i stand with my weight more evenly distrubted front/back on my feet. one of many other benefits is that my calf muscles relax in a way that i dont remember being familar with. (i was bracing even while actively relaxing!)

when we finished, my feet stood on the floor much differntly. the was much less of a transverse curve under my toes and my arch was lower. this made it easier to stand with a bettre weight distribution.

i am now even MORE convinced that rolfing is really something i need. this greater awareness of my own body is startling...and i have been overly concerned with my body for the last at least seven years (since i started lifting weights)! the momentarily high levels of discomfort from the manipulation of soft tissues in areas that i thought were not any part of the problem makes me realize that the physical sufferings are not only in my acknowledged problem areas. new areas (away from accident dammage) have fallen victim to dammage from "compensatory habbits." Things like the way you begin to stand on your feet , because you have been for so long in a defensive posture with your neck foward and your spine farther inside your back, to name one. rolfing is really just what i needed in at least a few repsects.

i wish i would have found rolfing much sooner. thank you Dr Stoll for this site, which led me to rolfing.

(i had stayed outside for a few hours before the visit and tried to do that afterwards, but i still had proeblems from the chemicals there...though i didnt reach the "fill up' point until later into the session.)

Hi leon,

I meant to write you sooner. Thanks for posting about your rolfing sessions, I look forward to reading about your experiences! Glad to see it seems to be really helping, and worth it to you. So, what is "freaky" about your rolfer?

Hi Leon, I was wondering the same what is freaky. Love following also your expierence with the Rolfing also. I am going to find someone in my area also and get sessions, it has been a great reminder for me hearing you; I had 15 sessions one time and it helped my posture a lot and it has been years and i can use it again; I'm 6 ft. tall and have to bend a lot. Yoga also helps in awareness for me, Rolfing really restructures things though. It can be a bit painful at times, i found it worth it; Thanks! Flying back to Fl. tommrow; Keep up all the good explorations for us and reminding us to stand stright and be aware and take care of these bodies;

Thanks, Leon.

Hopefully your testimonial will help others, who need Rolfing, to look into it.
