hello Dr.Stoll,
i've had this pilonidal cyst for 2 years now....and to be honest its starting to wear me out! i have read in your archives for more info and research. i have seen this 'rotational flap' surgery mentioned and i was wondering if this was the same as a 'zed plasty'.i live in scotland and therefore i am being treated through the NHS. the zed plasty was described/put to me after several attempts to remove the sinus. my consultant described this procedure- cuting a zig zag line in the area, removing the sinus(again) and stitching back up unevenly, leaving a lightening bolt scar! have u heard of this before??? your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi, Sherilee.
A rotational flap is so close to a z-plasty as to be interchangable--both are full-thickness procedures. Remember that these plastic surgery procedures are only to cover up the defect left by repeated surgeries and have nothing to do with actually curing the condition. IF there is any residual of the embryologically placed nidi, the plastic surgery will fail as well.
Good luck!
