Hello Dr Stoll....Well once again I am going through this horrible pain and considering the surgery. This is the 3rd time in 3 months that it has gotten infected. It use to be where it would only bother me every 6 months or so. This made it to where I could actually live with it. I do everything I have ever been told to do. I use the epsom salt and hot water and sit on that for 20 minutes at the first sigh of pain. I sit on a cushion to relief the pressure to the tailbone. I don't know what else to try. I have been looking up alot of stuff on the internet and I read that if it continues to get infected, my body is constantly fighting off infection and it may weaken my immune system over time. Now to me that doesn't sound good. Do you think my days of living with this are over? Do you or anyone else have any ideas on what I can do to stop the infection from happening so often? Any help at all would be great :) Thanks

Hi, Hope.
It is more likely that your repeated infections will strengthen your immunity rather than exhaust it!
Hot compresses are properly applied for a few seconds, while they are still hot, and then reapplied for a few seconds repeatedly until the total exposure has been about 5 minutes. Then this entire procedure needs to be done every hour until the flareup is receding--and THEN 4 times a day till it is gone: see the archives. It does not sound like that is what you are doing.
Serious wellness is the best way I know of to improve immunity. Although I do not think that is why this is recurring--still that program could do nothing but help.
I think the surgeons have continued to miss some of the imbedded nidi (not a fault of the surgeons since these are frequently microscopic). Who knows how widely they were distributed? Obviously wider than any of your surgeries since they are still recurring. Because of that it may be impossible to resolve this surgically without amputating you at the waist :>).
A massively wide excision of the area, along with a rotating flap plastic repair, MIGHT do the deed for you but your surgeons would have to decide if that should be tried.
Hope this helps.
