Pilonidal Surgery Healed after 11 Months!

I just wanted to offer something for the people who have had surgery to remove the pilonidal cyst and cannot get it to heal. I had my surgery in August 2001, it's now July 2002 and I have finally gotten the word from my surgeon that I am completely closed up and don't have to return to see him unless I have any problems.
I tried everything to get this thing to heal. I was originally stitched after the surgery and as this did not work to close the incision, I was re-opened and it was packed with gauze, I tried several different creams such as an iodine based cream and silvidene and several rounds of antibiotics along with bi-weekly doctor visits for shaving and poking at it (torture). I saw a plastic surgeon, just nothing would work. And them my doctor suggested we try putting Karo's Corn Syrup on it. I thought he was nuts, but was willing to try anything as I was headed for a second surgery. So my husband applied Karo's Corn Syrup mixed with a small amount of betadine on to the incision twice a day and covered it with gauze. Nothing much happened the first week or so and then by magic it closed up. I still have orders to be careful for another month or so, but I am so happy and I wanted to offer this tip to anyone else who is desperate like I was! Good Luck!

I should print this out and show it to the surgeon and nurse, as my surgery took place on 3/22/02, and the lil sucker won't close in one spot!

Never heard of that approach, but how could it hurt, right??

Thanks!

E

Wonder why more docs aren't giving their patients this little tidbit of advice? Wonder if anyone else has tried it?

Guess we'll never know unless more people speak up, hmmm?
