What a pain :(

Dr. Stoll,

First, I would like to say that you are doing a wonderful job with this website. We found it about 6 months ago and the archives are just great. Anyway, I'm writing b/c of my husband. He has had problems with p. cysts since he was in high school. He has had 5 surguries that have done little good. I have tried to get him to take zinc and he has been soaking in epson salt some recently. He is just in so much pain again. He thought it was just from work (he lifts a lot of weight), but now the pain is more in his rear end instead of just his back and legs. Do you suggest any kind of pain medicine? He takes a muscle relaxer called Soma some for other back pain, but it does not help much now. Also, his Dr. suggests surgery again. Should we even think about it. Please help! I can harly stand to see him in so much pain. Thanks in advance.--Kim

Hi, Kim.

Sorry to hear about your husband's predicament.

After so many surgeries his options are limited.

One thing he can do is, at the first sign of a flareup, use hot compresses properly (see the archives). They are many times as effective as the epsom salts sitz baths.

SR might help him learn to reduce the pain as would trainiing in self-hypnosis.

Here is a site that give you loads of information on how to avoid flare-ups. It's a bit easier to read than this site but by no means do I recommend you not read thru the achieves. It's just another site to get info.
