Pilonidal Cyst--possible treatment?

Posted by Mandy on February 02, 2003 at 00:52:26:

This is more of a suggestion than a question. My boyfriend who is 21 years old, recently had a pilonidal cyst. The cyst ended up rupturing on its own, and it healed up and was all right for about two weeks. Then, it seemed like it was starting to come back. The area began to swell again, and it looked red and inflamed. My mother is a pharmacist, and she suggested that we try something called Proactiv. It is a treatment for acne, which I sometimes use on myself for breakouts. Anyway, I began to apply hot compresses to the cyst twice a day, followed by swabbing it with hydrogen peroxide and then applying the Proactiv solution and cream. Within two days, the cyst was smaller, and now, four days later, it is almost completely gone. I don't really know what is in the Proactiv that works other than maybe something that helps unclog pores. I don't even know for sure that it was what worked, but I do know that he had been taking antibiotics and using hydrocortisone and other topical solutions, and nothing had helped until we tried the Proactiv. The website for it is www.proactiv.com, if anyone wants to check it out. I hope that this will help someone else..so far it is working for us!

Thanks, Mandy.

People with this miserable condition can use all the help they can get.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who tries this.

Namaste`

Walt
