I posted the following a year ago, and the same still applies, thank God. I've been very lucky, and I hope others may find good fortune, and consider alternatives to the painful surgery which has been repeatedly criticized on this BB for its very low success rate and side-effects.
all good wishes,
joey

A year ago I was treated by a practitioner of Chinese herbal medicine in Manchester (UK) for my pilonidal cyst - see archives - search using pilonidal and moxibustion.
I've been very lucky in that it hasn't reappeared. What I have left is a kind of hole, or tunnel, and every few weeks a hair or two grows out of it - confirming Dr Stoll's theory of the causes. I can usually sense it when a hair is sticking out by a very slight discomfort. My wife plucks it out. We also continue to remove the hair on my backside. I've been getting lazy about waxing my back, but I will resume that soon. I continue to wash the area using antibacterial soap and a wash-cloth. So overall it's been a great year, and my current situation is one that I'd be happy to continue with - no recurrence, but maintaining vigilance over the area.
I hope others are as lucky as I have been. I will of course keep you updated if the worst happens and it comes back.

Thanks, Joey.
It does take diligence, doesn't it? Congraulations on your persistance and your success.
