I have had a cystectomy and two major surgery to try and rid myself of this horrible thing. The first surgery was an open surgery and it healed fine, a month later it was back. I have had a second surgery where they took skin from my right butt cheek placed it in the crack and stitched it up. Its been two weeks since the surgery and the wound is still infected. I have been on anti biotics with no help. Bacteria lives on three things heat, moisture, and sugar. My question is, if I go on a no sugar diet, will this eliminate the bacteria.

I'm sorry you are having such a problem. I am going through similar things with what started as 2 subaceous cyst on the end of my tailbone. Then came the pilonodial cyst 2 years later. Then a fistula developed and I had surgery for that 12-31-02. Now, I have to have some kind of flap surgery/skin graphs to repair the hole and bone left exposed.
I don't know about the sugar thing. But, just keep the dressing clean and dry. Wash your hands, before and after you touch that area. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Actually, Mike.
Packing the wound with pure white sugar is an effective way to treat what you are describing. If you bug your doc he will have to admit that has been published in the journals he is supposed to be reading.
It is just that taking it internally reduces your immune response (by measuring the leukocytic index) by 90% [see the home page and archives about sugar]. Anything that improves your immunity will promote resolving the infection part of this but will not cure it if ALL of the buried "nidi" have not been removed.
Listen to Susan.
