a lump on my bikini line and low platelets

I have had low platelets (the count is around 100,000) for about four years and there is apparently no reason that anyone can find but in the last two years I have had a bump in my bikini line. It is always there and is about the size of a pea and doesn't hurt but about every month or so it swells to the size of a fifty cent piece and is extremely tender. It never comes to a head like a pimple and it is hard. I have been to the doctor twice and the first time he said it was a clogged hair folical and this time he said it was a swollen sweat gland. I am not sure if I want to trust him and I don't have insurance to go to a lot of doctors or money to pay for medicine that doesn't work. Are these two things connected and if not then what is this bump.

Hi, Karen.

Without seeing it I can tell you that this is a sebaceous cyst caused by your bikini chafing the duct and scarring it. See the sebaceous cyst archives. You are going to need this surgically removed, while it is quiescent. Be sure the doc knows enough to remove it intact or it may recur.

Thanks alot. I went to different doctor today and he said that it was a cyst. He gave me some antibiotics to get rid of the swelling and then he is going to cut it out. I really appreciate the quick reply and help.
