sabaceous cysts.. please help...

Posted by Ryan [1658.10] on February 08, 2004 at 22:55:33:

Hello, I have come across your site and you seem to be extremely helpful to many people.
I am currently 18 years old, and for several months now, I have had what I believe to be a sabaceous cyst on my scrotum, underneath my penis. I've read that these can be caused by shaving, in which I have done, and I have several other small ones(practically unnoticable) lower on my scrotum. About a month ago, I had two noticable ones adjacent to eachother, and I was able to pop one, it never came back as large, and what has reoccured is also unnoticable. However, the larger of the two I was unable to pop and remains there.
I have a girlfriend, and although we have not had intercourse, we are sexually active, she has not seen it because I've done well to keep her from seeing it. I read on your site somewhere that vigorous scrubbing with terrycloth helps it, but I think its too late. It is about a half-centimeter in diameter and since scrubbing only for two days, it seems to have become red/tender, and is pretty painful to the touch. Does this mean it has been infected, or is it just because I may have been 'too' vigorous. I had tried acne medications to no help, and I realize now the mistake i made with that.
Also could you please explain the process of hot compresses, and give any insight as to whether or not this will help me. I have a dermatologist appointment in 3 days and I intend on showing him, i have never met with him before, and I am quite embarrassed (although able to put that aside to deal with the real issue at hand..) I do not want to go through surgery to have it removed.... please help me with whatever I could do to remove these :(.. thank you

Hi, Ryan.

One of the risks if shaving those areas.

This is probably a result of trying to use buffing to treat (too vigorously) this problem when it is a preventive.

Hot compresses only help reverse any secondary infections that might occur.

You probably are past the point where anything but surgical removal will help. Be sure to find a surgeon who knows enough to not operate when they are inflammed and who will be careful to reomve each cyst intact.

In the meantime, since you have had several, it means to me that you are more susceptible to these than the average and I would be using the EFAs, on the home page, to try to reduce my susceptibity-----------ALSO stop shaving there.

Hope this helps.

Walt

I have found an article you wrote to a guy who 'performed surgery' on himself, and I agree, what bravery... You stated, "The EFAs will help, get the article from the homepage" I looked for the article, but I dont exactly know what I'm looking for. What are EFAs and are they non-percription? Thanks again!

ps- the pain is far reduced and there is limited soreness to the touch, much improved... back to its regular stage, I havent scrubbed anymore, only slight redness. The small ones have gone away.

Also, another point of confusion, I've read that cysts are 'moveable', what exactly is meant by that? If it means they are freely roamable around any part of the skin, because if it were the case, I would gladly move it to a less noticable location.. stupid question, I know, and I'm sorry!! :) but it never hurts to ask, right?! Thanks a bunch.. help me out with the EFAs!

Ry

Thanks, Ryan.

The EFAs article on the home page describes what they are and the dosages to try for a therapeutic trial. The sebaceous cyst archives has further information as to how to use them for this.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I am 24 years old and I too have had many recurring cyst outbreaks. The most common place for me to get them is my neck, however I have also gotten them on my underside of scrotum, by my ear, behind my leg and even in my mouth. I am getting very worried about these cysts as I just recently started getting them this much. It started in October and has been going full force ever since. I was told by a Dr. that I may need to see an Infectious disease specialist. What should I do? These cysts hurt and are very embarrasing!

Thank you!

Ted

Hi, Ted.

In my opinion, the doc who is sending you the the infectious disease specialist is just trying to get you out of his office.

What have you learned from the archives about this?
