I've had 3 operations within 6 months. I'm tired of the painful packings. This thing keeps on coming back. Is there any alteritive or something to do so it wont come back?

I, am a veteran of battle with this horrific monster. I finally won the war about a year ago. I will try to help you in your own fight with it...it won't be easy...but eventually, together with Dr. Stoll, we will put this beast down once again.
You sir, are the only person that I know that has had three surgeries for this painful bastard.
I might have the numbers a little off...it's been awhile since i've had to recall them but here it goes...
The first surgery on a Pilonidal Cyst has a 75% success rate.
The second surgery has a 40% success rate.
The third surgery has a 10% success rate.
What is happening to you is that during these surgeries, the doctor (or whomever) is not removing the Nidi (small hair folicles) that grow inside the area, that cause irritation and an accumulation of sebum (skins natural oils), then through a small pinhole drain opening right above the tailbone area...dirt, hair, sweat, etc. can enter the inner area causing it to become infected. The small pinhole drainage opening then almost always gets clogged and causes inflammation and a great deal of pain.
Surgery has a low success rate for this condition due to the fact that the Nidi are almost never removed or it may be impossible to remove all of them...plus, surgery usually obscures the drainage pinhole in someway or changes the drainage pinholes path in some way.
How it comes about...its a big freakin' secret....just kidding....nobody seems to know for certain its origin, or why it shows up in some people and not others. (There are some who think its origin coincides with that of the pre-natal tail)
There are certain groups of people more susceptible to this condition than others...
* People with access body hair.
* Overweight people
* People who sit for long periods of time
* People who have had recent bumping or injury to area
* People between the ages of 18 - 30 are most susceptible
Here are some ways to lessen the re-occurrance of the inflammed, painful version of the Pilonidal Cyst...
* Keep the area very clean.
* Shave any access hair away from the area.
* Deep scrub the area to try to get the drainage pinhole(s) open and draining again.
* Stay off of the area as much as possible (laying down on your side or stomach, or standing are your best options)
* Try using essential oils to moisterize and to help keep the drain open. (Dr. Walt Stoll can advise here...listen to him closely...I am Pilonidal Cyst FREE thanks to this man.)
* Stop the surgeries...they will not help you anymore.
Good Luck to you sir,

Thanks, Aaron.
The actual mechanism of cause was taught to us in medical school 40 years ago. Just because surgeons do not like to be considered helpless they hate to admit the cause.
Your atatistics are in the ball park, although I would put the first surgery at about 50%.

Hi Frank,
See the article below...
It mentions a bacteria called Staph Aureus being found in such cysts...
One route of transmission could be from the nose to the
affected area by fingers.. or by using toilet paper, first to blow the nose and then to wipe after a BM.
Although the article did not metion that Staph Aureus is a common inhabitant of the nose, it would be a good idea to have a nasal/sinus swab taken to test for this test.
Topical antibiotic applied to all infected areas for a few
months should solve the problem.
In the meantime, avoid the practice of butt-kissing at work..
:) (I thought you might need a bit of a smile.)
