Pilonidal tx testimony - tcm

I have been on & off this board for years. In fact, the first time I came upon Walt Stoll's health board was for my pilonidal cyst probably over 16 yrs. ago. I have had a pilonidal now for 24 yrs. I have suffered flares about every 3-5 yrs., but oddly while being treated for infertility with hormones, I've had 3 flares in 6 mos. which was very frustrating. Well, during a break from tx I decided to try out chinese herbs. I have excess heat symptoms and used the following herbs: Fertility Chi, Kidney Chi, Houttuynia and Sang Ji Sheng tea. I had been using them for about a week, and noticed the cyst had become stable, despite spending long hours sitting at work. That had NEVER happened before. Usually it's a snowball effect, it progresses rapidly. I also had NO nerve pain/sciatica once I started the herbs, despite the fact the cyst was pretty darn big and was at the size it usually starts turning into an abcsess. The two day previous to taking herbs I started losing sensation in the area & was getting occasional shooting pain. Last nite the cyst again was pretty much the same size it had been all week. I had taken a double dose of Sang Ji Jeng tea, one in the morning, one at nite. I woke up this morning, the cyst was GONE. I'm totally flabbergasted, as I wasn't taking these herbs for anything but to try to get rid of the excess heat problem and to assist in getting healthy for tx with IVF in a month or so. I just thought I would pop in and maybe help others who are not willing to do the surgery. I have never experienced a complete turnaround of my pilonidal. In all these years, once it's started to get irritated, that was it. I was in for another flare until the abscess got big enough to burst. I'm now a complete believer in tcm. Just wanted to say there are alternative ways down unusual paths to treat illness.

Wendy

Hi Dr. Stoll : )
Just wanted to add two things. I did a little research, and Houttuynia is used in tcm to treat lung abcesses, and also boils. I also learned from an acupuncturist that cysts/abcesses are a result of "damp heat" in terms of tcm. So any herb that treats damp heat will also treat a pilonidal. But it still could have been a combo (with exception of fertility chi which treats "excess heat") of the above herbs. Kidney Chi is also used for damp heat.
Hope this helps!
