Seborrheic Dermatitis

Posted by Shawn J. on November 02, 2003 at 16:08:31:

Dr. Stoll,

Hello again...I have a question about a skin condition I'm convinced I have had though all the dermatologist I've been to never give me a definite answer...Seborrheic Dermatitis. Do you have any sugestions for treatment? I'm a fireman and I'm looking to take a job in the Middle East shortly and I need help with finding a regimine that's pheasible for me with my schedule and something that won't be so difficult to follow like in the past with different shampoos, soaps and creams. Also do you think you could give me some suggetions as how to first wash the affected area before application of any medication or do you know of any pill that I can take to keep tis condition under control. A pill would make life so much easier. Oh and one other thing...does diet in anyway affect this condition and if so what should I not be eating and what should I be eating more of. Thank you so very much Dr. Stoll.

Shawn J.

I'm reading a it on it but I'm not following. First of all what is an EFA? Also if the Jojoba oil does the trick what exactly is the regimine to use? Thanks for the help.

Shawn

All topicals that you apply to your skin for SD will only work temporarily. Jojoba will give you temporary relief. YOu just apply 100% cold pressed jojoba oil to your SD. You can purchase it at a health food store. You only need a few drops.

You will have to work on the inside which is where your SD is coming from. Do SR, wholefoods diet, and exercise. Most important is SR and wholefoods diet.

Your SD won't be cured by anything you apply topically to it.

EFA's are essential fatty acids (occasionally referred to as essential oils). They are such things as fish oil, borage oil, evening primrose oil, flax seed oil and several others. There are 3 categories when taken singly. Continue to read through the archives for recommendation - there is a lot of good info already there. We all need EFAs in our diets.

I read of a recent poster using Jojoba to great success. It's in one of the archive threads here on the site, and if you see a term you don't understand, click on the Glossary link, resplendant with so much great information

Hi, Shawn J.

Listen to June 1 & Bliss.

Take at least 3000 milligrams of omega 3 fish oils twice a day and stop eating fast foods. Do your best to eat whole foods instead.

Let us know how you do. Topical hydrocortisone cream (OTC) can help temporarily.

How should I clean the affected area though and if Jojoba only gives temporary relief what do I do to keep it under control after that?

You will have to check out the archives, and be willing to spend enough of your free time in their studying up on what to do to get well on all levels.

Applying something topoically to your SD will work temporarly, but it will come back if you don't address the underlying cause.

Start out in the SD archives, then make your way to the SR archives and wholefoods/anti candida diet.

In the meantime, temp relief for your SD will include stuff like jojoba oil applied topically. I actually find that a particular sunscreen that I use does a great job when my SD has flared. I think it might be the Titanium dioxide that the sunscreen contains, but I am not sure on that.

These days it is very rare for it to flare up. I have found staying away from SUGAR and refined carbs played a big role in getting my SD under control.
It also seems to flare when under stress, and SR makes a huge difference to this.

For cleaning the area, don't use anything overdrying or harsh on your face. Try something hypoallergenic without any perfumes, colours etc.
I use a natural bodywash, and add some olive oil to it, and shake it up before washing my face. It has no dyes, no perfume, is all natural.
I have also found tea tree oil to harsh for my SD

Hi, Shawn.

Listen to Bliss. Buffing with each shower will also help along with the EFAs and her suggestions.

Dr. Stoll,

I'm tryig to follow along here. I'm looking through the archives and that but I not seen any definitive regimines. Really all I'm seeing from other individuals is..."I'm taking some of the this and I'm taking little of that," but I don't see anything (i.e.)...Wash two times a day with a non-blah,blah soap and take 500 mg Omega 3 fatty acid pills every eight hours." Do you now what I mean Dr. Stoll? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place but I am trying. I have limited internet access to the say the least nad when I can I'm on here trying to figure it out. I am tring as opposed to what I think one of the other commentators was trying to imply. Thanks again so much for your help.

Hi, Shawn J.

Sorry the 'site is not more user friendly. Since the 'site is totally non-commercial, we just do not have the funds to make it so.

IF your diagnosis is correct, the bare bones (to start with) is at least 3000 milligrams of omega 3 fish oils twice a day, buffing with each bath, learning about LGS and C-RS and practicing SR twice a day.

Let us know what you learn and how you do. It will take about 3 months to see significant results but inprovements will be steady after that.
