I am a college student and 21 years old, aobut two months ago i got this red rash on the sides of my nose that was also scaly. i went to a local nurse and was given triamcinolone acetonide cream. It seemed to dull the redness and releive the scales and it remained like this for about a month. It now looks scaly and has spread between my eyebrows cheeks sides of my nose and chin. I am becoming evermore depressed and dont want to even go out. What can i do I find that a spf sunscreen works for a while to hide it but as soon as i am done working out or running around it gets pretty bad. When i return home i have a well. IS well water enriched in sulfer bad for this condition, and what else besides fish oil and omega pills is good?? And Finally what is SR??? pleaseeeeee Help me

Jay,

Stert with the EFAs described in the home page article and start carefully "buffing" the area every time you bathe and when you dry.

Let us know how you are doing in a few months.

Walt

Hi Jay,
I wrote this board a few times last year because I was dealing with the exact same problem. I tried a few different things too but the ONLY one that worked to clear it up was the perfect whole foods diet. It cleared up for me after about 5 days of being absolutely perfect. It sounds difficult to do, at 24 years old I felt like I shouldn't have to be so careful. Guess what? It isn't that difficult. Make changes you can live with, that's what I did. For example, I used to eat peanut butter on toast every day for breakfast. Now, I eat natural peanut butter on toasted 100% whole grain, unsweetened pita bread. I love pasta and still eat it all the time - I eat 100% whole grain pasta with commercial but unsweetened and all natural pasta sauce. And it's good! Buy Beth's book and research as much as you can, then you will know what foods you can eat and what you can live with. Once you have the information, it isn't too hard to make the changes in your life. I will help you if you want. I was only perfect on the diet for about three months - now I am much more liberal with perfect whole foods periods. It has been about 8 months now since I have seen any sebborhic dermatitis on my face. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. It took about five days to clear to the point where no one else would notice it - it took a couple more months until I couldn't see it anymore. Creams and shampoos were a waste of my money and my hopes - I don't use anything now and haven't since I started whole foods. I do eat a lot more fish though.
