My baby sister recently told me that her butt has been itchy and red lately. Not all the time...does she notice except for when she goes to the bathroom. She doesn't seen any bumps, nor feel any she says...but is afraid to ask her doctor. She asked me, like I would have a clue what this could be. She told me that she just recently started having sex (which for me is ewww to think of...only 16) She just had her first yearly...and she said her Pap came back clean...I know that I should know this, but do they test anything else besides cells in a PAP?
Does anyone have suggestions?

They don't usually check for STDs unless they suspect that there might be a problem. This may have nothing to do with being sexually active. It may be due to her eating. However, somtimes herpes can show up as small itchy or sore bumps on the rectal opening. You should encourage your sister to get a biopsy at the doctor.

Hi, Summer.
If she cannot come clean with her doc, perhaps she should go to a woman's clinic where only female Nurse Practitioners, P.A.s or physicians work.
Only putting the examination together, along with an honest description of her sexual activities, and whatever else is then indicated, can a diagnosis be made.
A good professional doing the PAP would also do a good examination and history. If your sister will not be honest there is little the professional can do. The PAP is just the microscopic exam of the smear and does not include any of the rest.

She had a normal exam. And the Nurse Practioner refused to have her tested for STDs because she is too young and she only has one partner. Her Pap came back normal. too

She should go to Planned Parenthood and get a complete STD work-up with a herpes culture and or blood test.

Hi, Summer.
Question: How many episodes of sexual intercourse does it take to produce a pregnancy? Answer: About the same as it takes to produce a case of STD.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard - she needs a different medical practitioner. Also, to ask/tell them about anything she is concerned about. They have heard it all before.

It occurs to me that this is the same symptom that is being discussed in another posting, where leaky gut and external yeast are being considered as possibilities. Given her young age and sexual activity I am thinking yeast. Yeast doesn't necessarily produce a discharge if it isn't internal to the vagina. I would suggest she get an over the counter yeast med like Monistat and apply the cream externally according to directions for the recommended number of days and see if that helps. Expect it to initially be uncomfortable due to the irritated skin.
