Impotence - root causes?

Posted by Sue on August 02, 2003 at 03:19:55:

I have a friend (OK, new lover) who is suffering from erectile problems - quite a long-standing problem with him (over 5 years). It doesn't seem to be lack of desire, probably more a physical problem. I would be glad of intelligent and informed thoughts on the physical origins of this (other than the obvious fact that his erectile mechanism isn't working). Is it an indication of clogged arteries? What natural & holistic treatments are effective? Kindness and patience are obviously helpful, but it seems to need more than this! Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,Sue.

There are so many causes now known that it would take a complete evaluation by an erectile dysfunction specialist to sort them out and recommend what would probably be successful therapy.

Let us know what you learn and how he does.

How old is your friend? Maybe its his age working against him.
Hugh Hefner has seven girlfriends at age 72, and he puts it down to VIAGRA. Do you thinik your friend would be open to taking that to see if that makes a difference?

He is only 52. Far too young to abandon the joys of the flesh. I think he would consider Viagra, but like most drugs it has a downside and I wouldn't be happy to think of him taking it regularly over a long period. I want this relationship to last!!

has he ever discussed this problem with an erectile dysfunction specialist, seeing he has suffered with it for solong.
sorry i cant add anything more helpful. i sure hope that your relationship works out, it sure sseems that you want this one for keeps! :)
p.s. arent we lucky as women that we will never suffer from anything like this.
and would you want to stay in this relationship if he couldnt maintain an erection for intercourse. how about satisfying you in other ways. there is more to sex, than just sex, you know. :)

He is seeing his doctor on Tuesday and may get referred to a clinic. Yes, I do really want this relationship. He is a lovely man. And I would want it even without him being able to get an erection - we are quite capable of being creative! But I do think these things are important for a man's self-esteem.

BP pills or other drugs and prostate problems is the main cause, damage from smoking or long bike rides. For prostate problems 4 monthes on bee pollen may fix. Kelp turns me into a superstud, big time. it may work for him.
