Injured by sex

Posted by Bruised on October 25, 2003 at 09:32:43:

Immediately after having sex a couple days ago the right "outer lip" of my vagina was extremely swollen to nearly the size of a golf ball. A few hours later the swelling had gone down, but I noticed a small red dot as you would see with a broken blood vessel. Then, a little later, the whole right side was severely bruised to a deep purple.

I'm in my 30's and have regular sex with my partner. There was not any pain during sex and it was not at all rough (no pounding action). There is some discomfort as you would have with a bruise, but, everything else is normal. This has never happened before. Anyone know why this might happen? Not sure if I should be concerned.

Hi,Bruised.

This sounds like an injury to the duct of the Bartholin Gland.

Look it up. Once injured, this may begin happening more and more and it may have to be removed. There is one on each side.

If this happens again start using hot compresses at once (see the archives for the protocol) and see if you can't get it to quiet down without permanent damage.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
