excessive mastrubation

Posted by excessive on November 29, 2003 at 08:48:38:

dear doctor,
i am a medical student, and i am often studying throughout the course of the day, at least from around 1pm to 2am (we are in class until 1pm). beacuse of this i have begun to mastrubate excessively. by this, i mean, sometimes 5-6 times a day. i wanted to know if this were indeed unhealthy, and if it is normal? this has only been occuring this past year.

It's simply stress relief. Orgasm brings chemicals that calm the body.
I would however begin meditations. I know a woman who learned meditation as a study, when she was in india.

You sound like a whack-aholic!
Keep your eyes on your textbook and take your little shrimpy out of your hand. Crack the books NOT your shriveled and chafed worm!

sounds totally reasonable-doesn't look like you have time to give yourself emotionally to a relationship right now, so your solution looks like a good one.
When you do get into a relationship, you might have to re-train yourself to the different stimulation, but that shouldn't be a major difficulty.

What kind of meditations, mona?

anything that you can share would be great, because i too have a problem with masturbation...i mean, i study, but my mind completely changes into sexual thoughts...heck, im not even writing an erotic story, so why does my mind do this, and so offen...

id like to train my mind to meditate more and masturbate less, cos i just want my mind to stay on one thought, and concentrate...so what kind of meditations could i do...

serious.

please help!

Hi, Excessive.

If this habit is not interfering with your studies, I would not worry. "This, too, shall pass."

However Mona's suggestion would work better but would take learning a new skill. Once you get into practice the meditation skill would be a boon to your patients whereas I cannot imagine how the masturbation would help them.

You should look into Centerpointe. Or Brainsync (cheaper)...
It's not that you have to exactly "learn a new skill" right now - just begin to meditate through these outlets until you are ready and able to devote more time to meditation on your own. I do both - with Centerpointe and without.
Look into Brainsync. Find one that does not have a voice recorded with it. You just want the frequencies.
As you begin to do this, you will begin to take a step back.
I'd not worry so much about the mastrubation - I'd meditate to simply rid yourself of some stress and learn to handle things a little differently if the need arises.
My friend, who is Indian and went through med school in India, found that learning a form of meditation (she did TM) helped her to study, focus and handle her tests more...as it does in her day to day life now, in the states.
Let me know how you do. Hope it goes well (smile)
