Hey Walt,
I am a bit concerned as I seem to suffer from cystitis quite regularly after sex. It goes away almost immediately after drinking rehydration salts, but then will come back the next time. I also notice a change in the discharge during sex; it is much more watery and makes things less comfortable. Each period of this lasts about a week or so; my last one was about a month ago.
Since I'm also prone to eczema and perioral dermatitis I'm trying to resolve LGS as you advised. But I see that cystitis is listed as a candida symptom, and it got me worried that perhaps there is more to my problem.
Thanks for your help!

Hi! Try taking two cranberry caps after or before sex. Nature's Way standardized is a great brand. I've been using it for years for just this problem.

This happens to me sometimes, urinate right after sex, and keep a bottle of cranberry juice on hand, (not the store brand juice, the good stuff like Ocean Spray). Once you start to get the burning, drink a couple glasses, clears it up for me before the day is over.

Hi, Kate.
Listen to Anne & Naya.
Also, consider changing position for your intercourse so that YOU control the angle of the penetration and have less contact with the anterior angle of the vaginal opening where the urethra is. Being sure to urinate immediately after intercourse and maintaining sufficicnt hydration that you will be able to do this, will help.
For those cases that last more than a day, in spite of the above, consider the therapeutic douche in the archives to restore the normal vaginal ecology.
THEN, if this is not effective, consider the candida option.
Let us know how you do.
Walt

Thank you, I'll try your suggestions. Thing is, I quite like the position as it is! :) Are cranberry capsules/juice a healthier solution than rehydration salts then, or are they preventative?

I don't know about which is preferable, but cranberry caps are much, much better than juice. They are more concentrated and have no sugar which could lead to a candida problem.
As far as the postion is concerned, well, that's up to you. Try the cranberry caps and see how it goes. There is also something called D-Mannose which is a very concentrated form of what's in the cranberry caps. You can google it.
Good luck!

I've been reading articles lately by doctors who suggest that if you have more than two of what you feel are UTI's a year, you might have Interstitial Cystitis which is an inflammed bladder condition. It is not caused by bacteria, but often flares up following intercourse (which makes people then believe they have a UTI.)
Next time you think you have a UTI, please go in to a doctor and ask to have the urine cultured (not just a dipstick test.) If it comes back free of bacteria, it is very likely IC you are dealing with (doctors are learning this is much more common than once thought) and you can go to a urologist from there and get started on some treatment that can make you much more comfortable hopefully.
Blessings, Isis
