Sleep apnea

Posted by Peter B on October 06, 1999 at 16:29:56:

I've been looking for info about apnea on this BB. Haven't found it under Archives nor under Articles about Health. Am wondering if there's any treatment except for the continuous pressure oxygen mask, which I tried and found it caused me to have a near panic-attack.

A new study has just come out which found that 8% of Stanford Univ undergraduates have obstructive sleep apnea. What's going on here????? Is there any other species in which 8% of the young stop breathing when they sleep?

I asked Dr. Stoll a while ago ?why? we were getting so many people coming here with the same chronic symptom complaints, and even getting young people, not the middle-aged and older people that I might have expected.

His answer was to the effect that there is an epidemic of Un-Wellness and the corresponding chronic illnesses symptoms appearing at younger and younger ages, to the point that some small children now have chronic illnesses that used to usually affect only the elderly.

It seems to be a matter of huge accumulated stress (from physical, chemical, and social stressors), improper diet for the individual, and reduced exercise from previous days in which people were physically active all their lives. Not to mention increased exposure to infectious diseases since the world is all connected via air travel. Plus Allopathic doctors trying (unsuccessfully) to treat chronic conditions for which they have pills to treat symptoms, but nothing to treat the underlying causes. Put these all together and we see epidemics just like the one you mentioned.

Fortunately we've found this place and are learning tools to do something about it.

If you've not seen it before now, take a look at Walt's Three-Legged Stool.

Look up any unfamiliar terms in the Glossary. It also has links to the major articles, archives, and other sections of this web site.

Hope this helps!

It's "epidemic". I looked it up and corrected it everywhere except in the Subject. Oh Well....

Hi, Peter.

This is another perfect example of the environmental stress-effect burdens that have increased so drastically over the past 100 years in this country. These effects are stored in the hypothalamus which center directly influences your breathing rate and your sleep.

Hans Selye, MD's research (over 50 years) and Dr Pelletier's attempt to bring it to the public (MAH, MAS) would explain this in depth for you. I have yet to see a case that was not resolved within 6-12 months of correst SR.
