Swollen Gland

Dear Sir,I have a swollen gland on the left side of my neck about 2 inches above the collar bone and next to my adams apple.I noticed it a day after I bartended a huge party at my bar.(I met Steven Spielberg that night)Anyway,2 days later I had a cough with the usual yellow to brown sputum. The severity of the cough went away in little over a week.I went to my doctor who with a quick squeeze and a glance at the throat he said it was a throat infection and was prescribed an antibiotic for 14 days. Its over 2 months and the swollen gland is still there. It hasnt gotten bigger but it doesnt appear to have gotten smaller either. It can not be seen but I can sure feel it.No pain.I can sort of move it side to side and I can push it into the point I can feel my pulse.I read up on it and it could be a million other things but the the one that scares me is cancer.2 months prior to having this enlarged gland I started to experience body hair loss and that combined with the enlarged gland is symptomatic of lymphoma and thyroid disorders but with absolutely no weight loss or gain Ive sort of ruled that out.I also had a worsening of a skin rash that I have had for a while. To help you with your response:Male/34/6ft.2in.tall/267 pounds/mothers side of family has cancer 5 of 16 siblings had cancer/and Im a devoted father of 5.Any insight would be appreciated and respected.Thank You for your valuable time sir.Big Tom

Hi, Big Tom.

Several questions: Are you a smoker? How often do you examine the "node" to see if it is still there? "Yellow to brown sputum" in the morning?

Walt

Yes sir I do smoke.I check the node once every other day.And in the morning the sputum is brown,no traces of blood or anything.Generally when I brush myteeth first thing in the morning I generally force the sputum up by brushing at back of tongue.I usually brush until sputum is clear.I do not drink at all but I do have a problem with sweets and I only drink Coca Cola, approx. a 2 Litre a day.

Big,

Have you had your doc check out your lungs for a tumor?

Read the lymph node archives about keeping nodes enlarged by checking them.

I think you had better consider you have had more than your body's quota of smoking and hope that stopping it is not too late.

Walt
