Spine Surgery

Posted by Maria on February 27, 2003 at 07:54:31:

My diagnosis was Spinal Stenosis L4-5 with grade I Spondylolisthesis. This mad me suffer with back, buttock and leg pains. I visited several Orthopedic Surgeons, and a Neurosurgeon, and was told I needed a Laminectomy and a Fusion. Reading the stories about 'fusions' on Dr.Stoll's BB.I refused to take this path. After much research on the Internet I found MicroSpine.com/, who specializes in true minimally invasive Spinal Surgery,(Microsurgery).A true miracle surgery!
The surgery took about an hour,I was awake all during the surgery, except some sedation, and I walked out on my own 2 feet, the same day.I stayed a couple of days in a Motel to visit the doctors for follow up care, just in case there would be some complications. There were no complications, and practically no pain. I did not even fill the prescription for pain I was given. Then my husband and I drove home (a 2 day trip).I have to take it easy for 6 weeks, no bending, no lifting things heavier than 10 lbs. etc. Gradually walking every day 5 min. longer.
Please back sufferers look up www.microspine.com for your back problems, even if you had former failed surgeries. You will be glad you did! There are only 3 Pyhysicians in North America and 5 in the World trained in these procedures.

I am glad that the surgery helped your pain but what did the surgeon do about the instability in your spine? Afterall, the ONLY reason to perform a fusion of the verterbrae is to make the spine more stable. This can be done simply by strenghthening the ligaments supporting the weak verterbrae. No my knowledge, only prolotherapy can achieve this. If anyone knows of a simpler or more effective technique, please let me know. So far, nothing I know of can strengthen the spine better than prolotherapy. Ligaments become up to 30% stronger than normal, healthy ligaments which is remarkable. Go to www.prolotherapy.com for more if you are interested in learning about it

Thanks, Maria.

I appreciate your giving us one more option for this common problem.

Unless you deal with your bracing, to take the strain out of this equation, I am concerned about eventual recurrance.

Listen to HY, Sean & Geo.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.
