Feb 18th 2003 I was in an automobile accident. Before this occured I have continuesly had lower back pain, hip pain, severe leg pain on and off. Also, in my neck and to about mid ways of my back between shoulder blades. The test show L5 is sacralized. Also C5-6 has mild bilateral uncinate hypertrophy present with slight resulting bilateral foraminal at that level. Would someone please explain this to me. The accident was over 2 months ago and I am still having alot of pain in chest and back area. When putting pressure on sturnum I feel brused in chest and while putting pressure on sturnum, feel pressure and pain under the right arm to the middle of back. Just recently knots are forming on the right side of my neck and whole right shoulder blade is sore to the touch. No broken bones can be seen. Any suggestions? If you have any answers, or suggestions please email me at lisar970@bellsouth.net

In addition to my own accident - and to people I work with (personal training) I will tell you that most long term injury from an accident shows up THREE MONTHS AFTER the accident (the ones that are "hidden") - so from now till the next month or so, you may find MORE pain and symptoms.
Make sure you don't sign off on insurance and make sure you document EVERY ailment - from a headache to a bad night sleep. Make sure your md AND LAWYER know it all.
SR and mild movement, be it walking or stretching will help usually. Check with an MD or physical therapist... don't "do nothing" or the atrophy will be worse, and your body needs to move to help rebuild.
Prayer doesn't hurt either!

Hi Lisa,
If I were you, I'd start receiving alternating sessionsright away, one with a chiropractor and and one with a massage therapist, each week. At least one per week, but the chiropractor can give you more specific guidance. Go to the chiropractor first and get a prescription for the massage therapy so the insurance will pay for it.
Best wishes,

Hi, Lisa.
Listen to Happygal.
You had serious bracing problems before your accident and it just pushed you over the edge into having a problem set at a higher level of symptoms than before.
Your L5 "problem" is NO problem. It is genetic and does not weaken the spine at all!
Until you start dealing with your bracing this will be the pattern for the rest of your life. This is a totally unnecessary condition but you are going to have to change your way of looking at things to begin to resolve it.
See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and the bracing archives for your options.
If I were in your shoes I would add a Certified Rolfer to Happygal's recommendations.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.
