Technical spinal fusion

Posted by Virginia on September 01, 2000 at 11:05:57:

I,ve been told I need to have a techincal spinal fusion? Could up please tell me what the procedure is and the likely outcome? My doctor gave me a 98% success rate. I also have an herinated disc L5 and slipped disc, also degenerative disc disease. Should I have this done?

Hi, Virginia.

First you need to educate yourself about this situation: read all you can on the archivfes about spinal conditions. Then see what Doc Kim has to say.

Be sure to ask your doc (The one who says 98% success rate.) to show you the research that says that. World research reports say exactly what we have been reporting here on this BB for years: 1/3 of spinal surgeries get better, 1/3 get worse and 1/3 stay the same. That is a FAR CRY from 98%.

THEN, before any cutting is done, if you still have questions, write again.

Walt
