cordal spinal procedure

I am writing on behalf of a friend, he is going for a spinal procedure the surgeon is calling a cordal. He has a bulged disc and has been treated so far with anti inflamatories and pain killers. He has been told it will require a spinal injection under aneasthetic that will have a 70% chance of improvement. If anyone can explain the procedure to us and tell us how it works we would apprciate this information as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Hi, Carole.

It really bugs me that docs routinely throw out %s like this with NO basis. When things go bad they just say that the person was just one of the unlucky ones. They KNOW that people like to hear those great %s and that thay use them to decide to have the surgery (or whatever procedure).

Make the doc provide the research that documents that 70% cure rate. There is NONE!

The global research shows that there is not a better procedure than surgery and that surgery results are 1/3 get better, 1/3 get worse and 1/3 stay the same for all procedures. That is a FAR CRY from the 70% quoted to your friend.

If his doc has a magical new procedure that is twice as effective than all the rest, HE would have written a research paper on it himself.

I stand ready to be corrected. In the meantime your friend would profit by spending a few days on the archives about Spinal Problems.

Please let me know what you learn.

Walt
