Re: Doc Dave: L5-S1 DDD spinal "ray-cage" fusion??

I had spinal cage surgery in Feb. of 1998, I suffered for 3 and a half years, went through every treatment that was recommended, shots of all kinds, facet joint injections, nerve blocks, ect. no relief but the I went to a doctor who was highly recommended and he did not encourage surgery, but felt that I had tried everything and my last option was surgery, he preformed the new spinal cage surgery on my back but went through my stomach, near my belly button, he took bone marrow from my hip and put around the cages. It has been almost 1 year and I am 80% better, once in a while I have a slight backache, but nothing like it was and I am 44 and I feel like I finally have my life back. My doctor was William Lestini, in Raleigh, N.C You can find him on the internet.

I, too, have had the Ray's Cage fusion. But unlike you, mine has not been very pleasant. It's been 8 months and I am in constant pain. My doc went through my back and took marrow from my hip and my hip is always in pain even to this day especially when it's cold. I hope you continue to have good luck with yours.

Tom,

Dr Dave may have better ideas, but I had one thought that may help. I have just started having some cranial-sacral therapy to sort out some structural problems. It is a very gentle therapy that is kind of hard to explain, but works on the spinal fluid and allows the body to start healing itself.

There was a thread on it a week or so ago, which you could have a look at. It includes some ideas on how to find a reputable therapist.

Best of luck, Deb.
