Spinal Fusions

Posted by Jeanne Dione on February 09, 1999 at 21:54:31:

My 20 year old daughter has undergone 3 spinal fusions, 5 assorted operations, radiorisotomy, and is presently considering another spinal fusion from the front to fuse her column from the front. She has been in chronic pain for 7 years. Her first fusion was at the age of 13 after a discogram and CAT scan confirmed two herniated discs. Should she do it again? Is there any chance of her pain abating?

Dear Jeanne,

Both you AND your daughter desperately need to read everything you can find in the archives for this BB about spinal conditions frequently surgerized.

This will take you a few hours but what is that when matched up against what she has already gone through AND what she will go through in the future is you both do not finally stop WHY this is happening?????

It seems to me that the surgeons have had their chance!

Dr Shealy is an internationally known neurosurgeon aho had the courage and the genius to go beyond the simplistic paradigm of: "To a hammer everything looks like a nail!"

THEN, if whe were mine, I would go to Dr Shealy's center & get this behind her.

ALL of this is covered many times in the archives.

If you still have questions after getting this under both your belts, write again.

Walt
