Spondylosis

Hello
I am 28 and I have been told that I have mild spondylosis and bulging at L4-5. and tiny disc protrusion at L5-S1.

I am/was a very competitive traithlete, for the past 4 years. I started these pains about four months ago and made my doctor get me an MRI and this is what he found. I have more Jargon on my report but don't know what it means for my future in doing triathlons much less sitting on the couch. I have pain continuously and am talking Naprosin. The pain is a 4-5 out of 10.

I can no longer run and have not done these events (swimming Running and biking) in the past two months

I am afraid to do any of these in fear of further closure of the canal, closing on to my nerves.
I have notices just recently, I have been tripping as I walk every once in a while.

I would like to start riding my bike (because I am going insane without the racing and training) and pursue racing again on the bike only. What will come of my back if I start to ride?

Hi, Jeremy.

Every town now has regular classes in underwater exercises which is what you need to start right away. From that, hopefully you can develop swimming as a long term exercise but, if not, the underwater exercises 3 times a week would do the trick. In a year or so, in conjunction with regular SR (see the glossary for any unfamiliar terms), you wlll likely be able to get back to bike riding.

In the meantime, spend as much time as you need in the archives about spinal problems.

Alexander Technique OR Feldenkrais would also help in the long run (library).

Let us know how you do and what you learn.

Walt
