been doing sr for 9 weeks now listening to relaxation cd's and breathing. im not getting a multiple of responses but i am getting increased salivation and more frequent swallowing. i have experienced the spinning feeling several times here people explain, when it happens i just open my eyes for a minute and it passes. the thing im getting most when i do sr is tingling all in my feet, does that mean im truly reaching the relaxation response? i get it every single time i practice sr. still waiting on my feed back machine to come through the mail but i just wanted some input from people who have been practicing it longer and have more knowledge. also some times i get these pulsating feelings in my body for a couple of seconds and in different spots each time its happened. i wonder if thats the stress literally being released from my body. thanks again in advance and take care all!

Hi john,
"i wonder if thats the stress literally being released from my body."
Sounds like it to me. It sounds like you are doing really well. Unique experiences are not ultimately important -- just keep doing the practice and you will keep learning more and more about your body's relaxation.
Best wishes,
Happygal

I was told by several people on several different occasions that the spinning feeling is your body telling you to release control. Usually type A or control types get this (I admit I am) and once I learned to let go more in LIFE the spinning stopped...

Hi, John.
Hopeful signs.
Listen to Happygal and Michele.
You have to trust that nothing bad can happen to you and "let yourself go" when you are fortunate enough to have these feelings.

thanks dr stoll, happy and michelle. i think you hit it right on the head dr stoll saying that i need to feel safe and that nothing will happen 2 me, when that spinning feeling has started ive gotten scared and i open my eyes and stop doing my sr till it stops and then resume again. youre absolutely right i do neet to let go in life in general michelle, im 23 and ive probaly stressed myself out in life to the equivalent of some1 thats twice my age. heres the thing im wondering about people, what kinda thoughts do people have in their head when doing sr? it seems my mind goes from place to place, my body is feeling relaxed and sometimes my mind is but im not sure if it always is becuz im thinking about different things during sr. thanks again

Hi John,
I do my SR with music too. Had a terrible time with monkey brain at first--mind going from place-to-place, making to-do lists, thinking about what I should be doing when I finish SR, so I'd better hurry & get it over with, etc. Finally it passed, for the most part. When I do catch myself wandering, I just gently bring myself back and concentrate on the music. Next thing I know, my session is almost over and the music is bringing me back to consciousness. I've totally zoned out and did not fall asleep.
I had a lot of trouble letting go, too. Now there is a subtle sign that signals a shift into the right state--a slight catch in my breath or twinge of tension in my chest. When I feel that, it's like my body's signal to my mind that it's ready to drift, and I allow it. Maybe the spinning is your signal. Be sure you are physically comfortable. Aches and twinges can be very annoying and distracting.
If you have trouble staying with the music, try a different CD (ones that induce brain waves may help you) or just focus on your breathing or progressive relaxation of your body. Even something as simple as counting your breaths or focusing on your breathing technique (e.g., putting your hand on your abdomen and sensing your hand rise and fall) can help a lot. Do you see colors when you close your eyes? A lot of times I just follow those and that occupies my mind enough to lose my train of thought & any distractions.
Most importantly, don't beat yourself up for not getting it letter perfect. There are really no rules, because you just need to find what works for you and go with it. If I can do it, anyone can!!
Hope this helps.

hi nutmeg, thank you very much for the advice i will try it. there was a couple times with my eyes closed i saw a flashing blue light, that did not scare or bother me tho. and that tension you spoke of in your chest,i get that often when doing sr, it doesnt stay long tho. if i open my eyes during sr and i continue with the type of breathing i do during sr my eyes feel very heavy and wanna close again right away, is that a positive sign of any sort? thanks again

Hi - Do yourself a favor and don't even concern yourself about what thoughts are in your mind during sr. SOmetimes mine can be very "deep" where I'm just thinking about floating - or sometimes they are as superficial as wondering what will happen at a class later that evening, or I'll find myself recapping something that has happened - the point is - it doesn't matter what you are thinking. What counts is that you are learning more and more control, and that you are relaxing (or learning to)...also, each time may be a little different, and you'll soon be able to bring yourself to the "place" you find most relaxing and enjoyable. It's all apart of the "let it go" thing!

hi michelle, thanks for the advice. as i said earlier im 23 and probaly have the stress of somebody twice my age. that has led to me having gerd(thought it was cuza tha food i ate be4 i found dr stoll's site)and a couple of months ago a infected prostate which im still battling, nether is fun. my friend whos a year older than me recently got sick cuz of stress and his doctor prescribed him xanax to take, i would tell my doctor all my problems physically are stress related but i dont wish to be on any more drugs. the protonix, prevacid and cipro have been enough for me this year and im feeling alot better now after doing the ginger root juice protcol and starting SR a little over 2 months ago than i was on the prescription drugs. i have this tendency and have had it from the time i was small to worry about and stress myself out over any little thing, well obviously it finally caught up with me this year. when i first got sick jan 1st i weighed 183 lbs im now around 160 ive followed my diet perfectly since i got gerd, my weekends are alot more boring now but since ive gotten sick i havent gone out drinking with my friends or even had a drink, i used to drink maybe 1 day a week lol which isnt alot for some1 my age but i completely gave that up. i am trying to get better, and you and dr stoll are both right i need 2 let go. ive needed to do that for so long and ive tried to in the past even be4 i got sick with no success. i get upset and angered easily and ive been working on that as well. as far as SR goes i am doing what he suggested (dr stoll) when i first started it and not trying and just letting it come 2 me, i dont try and put any thoughts in2 my head and i just go with whatever enters my mind during sr but it's not always happiness, its everyday things and people that are coming in2 my mind during it. lol aight enough babbling i wont care about it, but thanks again for the help, much appreciated=)

I am big into yoga - you should get the book, "The Art and Science of Raja Yoga" ---it has so much in it that you will find not only comforting but inspiring...
Hey - when I was 23, I was a worrywart...as I was at 3 I bet....and now I'm 36, and let me tell you - it catches up all the time. I've learned that stress can reak havoc on your brain chemistry, and actually CHANGE it..so I'm working on reversing it - I know some think it can't be, but I KNOW it can be....harvard even did a study on SR and stress and all that goes with stress, (years ago, and they re-research) and I do feel that they are on the mark...it can be reversed...so, to give you hope - I overcame female issues, abuse, rapes, stalkings, deaths of loved ones, work issues, relationship issues - and now I am basically "happy" but with physical issues..so, I'm working on the mind, so that IT is stronger to work on the bod!
You shouldn't worry what you think about during sr...I think of some wacky stuff, but after my 30 minutes, I feel great. Sometimes, I feel reflective, other times, creative...it's a toss...but, the bottom line is - each time I SR, (with Centerpointe, though Brain Sync seems very good and way cheaper) I know I am empowering my body/spirit...and that alone is a great feeling.

Hi John,
To answer your question, a lot of little things "wrong" with me - but to be honest - barring stress- I'm healthy. That seems odd to say, because stress can kill (and does often)...
I have little aches, pains, stomach bothers at times, used to get rashes...little fevers here and there, anxiety... a lot of "small" things that made me feel unhealthy. My SR is a godsend...
By the way - don't feel odd about not drinking/partying - I refrained from that in my youth, and I didn't feel I missed out on a thing. I'm wacky without booze! LOL Find some nice health nuts and hang with them - join a group at your local bookstore or health pharmacy ...get to know other youth who care about their bodies...you'll soon find a different group of people who you have more in common with - but don't totally ditch the old friends!

thanks again for your help. im postin this cuz it looks like tha other 1 is bout 2 leave tha board. anyways yeah i havent gave up my old friends, lol im just referred to as mr anti social outta every1 now. but no 1 rips on me for not drinking anymore, actually some give me props for it, i just get referred 2 as anti social cuz i dont come out as much but theyre just messin wit me and know im tryin to heal myself. you kinda sound like me with the stomach aches and little aches and pains and a rash here or there, even be4 this year when i was diagnosed with GERD about 7 years ago when i was 16 i started gettin rashes such as egzcema and what not. that right there is why i know my problem is stress, i had a rash really bad all over my back and i went to the dermatoligist and he gave me some medicine and i had been on it for a week but it really wasnt working all that much. well i went on a religious retreat for my high school and i came back 2 days later and low and behold it was gone. i believe in god and im not a real religious person but those 2 days were the closest ive felt to god and of course he had something to do with i but i also think being away from the stress of my everyday life did also. people might say what stress does a 16yo old have but then and now i stress myself out even if something bad hasnt happened or is going on. you suggested also hanging with a group of some people who are sharing the same health interests as me, well im just starting to excercise lightly now and as i feel better ill be going back to the gym in time and working out and playing basketball again, my gym's 24 hours lol so i can go there on friday and saturday nights when everyones out drinking. most of all again i just wanted to thank you for taking the time to help me and offer advice, as well as dr stoll and every1 else here who has
