Contact dermatitis from grocery store?

Posted by DermaTron on July 10, 2003 at 10:28:04:

Yesterday I encountered a man in the checkout lane at the grocery store with quite a rash on his elbows; it looked to be poison ivy, but without blisters. He reached for something and put it down, and I realized I needed it and picked it up. A minute or two later the section near my thumb, on the hand I'd grabbed the product, started to swell and itch considerably. But it looked like a strange, large bug bite more than anything. Then a few hours later a rash appeared on the top of my hand - it was non-textured and made of many small pink/red ovals. I covered it after putting on some desonide creme from a previous contact dermatitis and went to bed. In the morning the 'bug bite' was still active, but the rash was completely gone.

Any ideas?

Hi, Dermatron.

The only way this could have happened so fast is for your mind to have done it to you. It really must have looked gross.

This reaction is not uncommon and not likely to happen again. This proves how powerful your mind body connection is. SR, with imagery, would do you a lot of good. Look it up in your library. Your reference librarian can find you the section.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
