Just sifting through everything trying to find possibilities. My daughter is at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene Oregon as we speak...already had one weel of induction therapy with biohazardous materials pumped through her body. It was suggested to call the Cnacer Treatments Centers of America...I did but they ONLY take people with GREAT HEALTH CARE COVERAGE hmmmmmm! I asked if they would consider a payment plan or Oregon Health Plan...they said absolutely not...so again their health care is for those who can afford it with excellant health care plans. What I would love to hear are any suggestions for complimentary health care for my daughter...at this moment her entire immunity is totaly wiped out and they want to continue this insanity for another 4 months. HELP!

Hi, Patricia.
Listen to Dmaryd and SHAPE. See the cancer archives for things she can do for herself.
All advances in medicine that push the paradigm begin by only being available to those who have the financial wherewithall to pay for them. It takes usually a generation for the wheels of insurance to catch up and begin paying.
By the way, "copmplimentary" mean "free" and I am sure you meant "complementary" which means "in association with".
OR, perhaps it was a "Freudian Slip"?

I don't know how helpful this is in your situation, however, I am aware of the fact that MD Anderson Cancer Centers are purported to employ a great deal of alternative medical techniques to supplement the conventional treatments. If memory serves MD Anderson is associated with the University of Texas but has other Centers around the nation. I used to live in a city that had an MD Anderson Cancer Center while I was going to school. Do you know if there is a branch in your area?

Hi Patricia,
My father had this form of leukemia 12 years ago. He was in his sixties when he contracted it and didn't have as many options for treatment then as your daughter has, e.g., he was too old to be considered for a bone marrow transplant. He lived for a year with the disease and went through 2 remissions. It was a very hard year.
At the time, we didn't know any better than to go with conventional medicine and use chemotherapy and then radiation treatment, when the leukemia recurred in his spine after he came out of his first remission. This disease is hard because unlike a lot of other cancers it isn't initially isolated to a small area of the body. I think you're very much on the right track with wanting to boost your daughter's immune system as the chemotherapy is beating it down.
I would begin by contacting Bastyr University in Washington State. They train naturopathic physicians and might be a resource for talking to you about treatments and/or locating a naturopath for you in Eugene (www.Bastyr.org). You'll want someone who can come and see your daughter in the hospital. I would also talk to her oncologist about complementary treatments and working with a naturopath. They should be open to this.
Another option I found online is http://www.cancure.org/.
One other thing I would do is get her support for her spirit too. A diagnosis of leukemia is devastating for most people. Your daughter's mental outlook has a direct impact on her immune system. Not only is her diagnosis depressing, but a side-effect of many of the cancer meds is depression too. So, I would work to combat that. Here's one link that explains an alternative therapy for that http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ETO/content/ETO_5_3X_Humor_Therapy.asp?sitearea=ETO . I would also suggest checking out Norman Cousin's books (http://www.potentialsmedia.com/NormanCousins.html)
Also, remember during all of this to take care of yourself. Often caregivers will run themselves into the ground physically and mentally. Remember that you need support and help too. Ask your hospital about support groups or other resources for caregivers of someone with a life-threatening illness, or create a network from your friends and family. Don't bear the burden of this all by yourself.
All by best to you and your daughter,
Daisy

As a Grave's disease sufferer, I practiced Qigong to kill all the dirty stuff in my body. I am now into my 5th month and 1 week, and have almost recovered tremendously. I definitely can attest to Dr Stoll's SR medication. I am practicing Intrinsic Qigong, but most of the Qigong are the same as long as the hot breath that we hve can be turned into a powerful force that rush through the whole body can kill anything bad in the way. Dark spots on my back are just peeling, my long time scars are also peeling.
I heard some people use energy healing with help from others, although I really have no freaking idea what it is and I don't really believe it. U should find an instructor, to explain the different kinds of feeling experienced while practicing i.e. floating in the air, bloating sensation, abdomen moving, sometimes cold and hot, head spinning, jerky bodily movements........
I hope this helps.....
