SR dangerous to hypoglycemics?

Hi,

I bought the stress reduction and relaxation handbook that is
recommended in the SR section of this site so I could learn how to
do SR. My problem is it says that diabetics and hypoglycemics
should have a doctor present when doing it.

Do you know why the handbook would say hypos have to be
careful doing SR?

Going a little off topic now but not too much I hope :o) ...

I am a bit bummed to learn this as I have so many problems that
finding viable treatments is difficult - what I mean is that a "cure" for
one thing will be a problem for something else. I have insulin
resistence (Syndrome X), LGS, chronic pelvic pain
(endometriosis?), IBS, and under active thyroid. I really wanted to
try liver cleansing for example for my endo but I can't fast because
of my hypo. I am also interested in Chinese herbs and natural
supplements but my tummy doesn't like most things, so taking
herbs is really hard.

Thanks!
Sue

Hi Sue! I wish I could help you with that one. You'll probably have to wait until Walt sees your post. I'm slightly hypoglycemic and it doesn't do anything bad to me. If Walt doesn't answer soon, make a separate post addressed to him personally.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Walt will probably answer tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Sue.

This gave me a good laugh. This must be their most recent edition. You have heard of the "Peter Principle"? This is a good example. These people should stick with what they know and not try to be everything to everyone. They are very good at helping people learn SR but are pretty ignorant medically.

Foggedaboudit!

I am not so sure about this, but the reason that comes to mind is that when my blood sugar is low and dropping, the only things that snap me out of it are exercise or food. Sitting down meditating could not improve that condition, but possibly only bring the blood sugar even lower. In case of diabetics, their blood sugar can get dangerously low, they sometimes need help to bring it up again. But for 'ordinary' reactive hypoglycemics like me, this could not be dangerous at all. I would probably just fall asleep.

Why don't you get in touch with the authors and ask them clarify what they meant? On the other hand, Walt's probably right when he says forget about it.
