Ok, so my New Year's Resolution is to dedicate myself to the 3L's. I am still trying to understand SR though - how to practice it, how to certify, what tools to use. I have searched the archives and now just need some advice.
Thanks!! :)

I got a centerpointe demo, but I haven't purchased any yet.
I think it's a good choice though.

You can do SR without CDs by the way.
They might assist and be helpful, but they aren't necessary.

Sounder had a great one - I have it but my husband is listening to it
but forget which ONE! Centerpointe is also good but pricy. I'll get the
one my husband is using and get back to you!

Hi Elise,
For the best understanding of SR, read "Recapture Your Health."
Some people just use relaxing music CDs. "Solitudes" makes some really good ones, I use them with my massage clients.
Best wishes,
Jan

Hi,
I keep going back to,
" Letting Go of Stress "
Emmett Miller, MD and Steve Halpern
There are four different techniques. One is complete body relaxation, another a trip to the beach with ocean sounds, another a trip down in an imagined elevator, and one on breathing.
I ordered it from Amazon, when I got it there was a sticker on it saying #1 Selling Relaxation CD.
I bought the tape 4 years ago and it finally wore out.
This one is more for body relaxation.
I have also used The Silver Method which I find very good, there is a tapping "Alpha" sound which puts me in a deeper state of relaxation almost immediately. I feel this one is more for mind relaxation.

Thanks, Melanie.
I do not think anyone can go wrong trying ANYTHING by "Miller & Halpern"!

Thanks for the tip, I sampled the tracks on Amazon, and all of them have a guy's voice in. Is that not offputting? I think personally I'd prefer no talking, and just relaxing sounds/music. I suppose everyone is different.

Chris,
Thank goodness we are all different, that is a good thing.
The muscle relaxation CD by Emmett Miller, starts off with tightening your right hand, then relaxing it, and goes throughout the body from right hand to left foot, gently tightening a muscle group and then relaxing it.
I find this works, and need the soft voice in the back ground guiding me along, from hand to lower arm, to shoulder, etc. I cannot do this myself as my mind would drift. Takes about 25 minutes.

Maybe the fact I find it offputting is an indication of my need to do this, SR I mean. I have the Alpha Relaxation Suite, and found noises in that CD a bit disturbing so I stopped. I think in truth I find it very difficult to relax, probably because I'm so close to the edge of the cliff. Maybe once I've persisted with SR for awhile, my perception will change. The way you described this CD sounds interesting. I may give it a go. I know what you mean about the mind drifting. I am very impatient and get bored just sitting around. I can't seem to allow myself time to just relax, always thinking of something.

Miller was one of my early SR vehicles. Contrary to what you are saying, my biggest problem was falling asleep. Everyone has their own way. Don't worry too much about monkey mind, just observe, dismiss and continue.
See the link for longer Miller samples.

Thanks Sounder.
Monkey mind - yes that's it. Does this go away with practise?

Chris,
It took a long time - years - for me to settle into a schedule and do SR regularly, I have several tapes and CD's that did not work for me, either I would fall asleep or monkey mind would chatter away.
Millers' tape keeps me focused and the tightening and relaxing of the muscle groups works to train me to loosen up on the bracing.
I had costochondritis from 2002-2004, when I finally got myself to listen to the tape everyday - the costo went away completely in 2 1/2 months in 2004.
I stopped doing SR and the costo is back and I am just about 2 months into doing it everyday, had a lot of stress last fall which started the bracing again.
I procrastinate - don't know why - I put off doing it for 30 minutes sometimes.
It does work.
