SR, swirling purple and then vision of universe

When doing SR, I sometimes see the color purple. It will start as a circle and then go smaller then another circle appears and this goes on. Several times, the purple color has parted (like clouds) and it literally feels like I am looking at the universe. I've read the archives and people have talked about the color purple in SR. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced or knows what the above means. Thanks, BB

I believe it's called the mystical pearl, but I don't know what the meaning is. It's a positive thing. You probably ARE looking at the universe.

Very awesome, BB! That sounds like a wonderful relaxing and exciting experience.

I have experienced circles of color that spiral inward and become smaller during my SR and other meditative experiences too. Most of mine have been purple, but I have never seen them part and open to the universe. I will do that someday, I'm sure.

I and many others believe that these swirling or spiraling colors present during meditation actually represent the chakras, the body's energy centers. Purple or violet (and sometimes white) is the color of the seventh or crown chakra, located at the top of the head. The violet chakra is the source of our spiritual or divine connection and our opening to the universe! It sounds like you were right there, gazing into the vastness of the universe and feeling your oneness with it and with the divine. How cool is that?!

I did a quick search on "chakra colors purple" and found what I was looking for in the first one I clicked on. Check out the link:

Are you sure that is the "Universe" and not the beginnings of a blood starvation of optical nerve?

Could it be that the colour observed is a way that the
body has of warning you to stop the activity that is causing the effect? If it is distracting, that may be
why it happens to "distract you"
..Sort of like when you arm falls asleep causing pins and needles when you lie on it for too long....

There are many things that can come to you in meditation/relaxation. It is best not to let the ego get caught up in them. Witness them and let them go by.

I sometimes see a bright white light, like a star burst. It depends on how strong the energy flow is in my body. The stronger the flow the less I will see any light. I guess because I focus on the energy flow.

My Massage Therapist can also feel my energy flow. When I get a massage I like to do a SR session and my MT can feel the energy too. Sometimes she will tell me to stop because my energy flow makes her want to stop the massage and zone out too. Hey, I'm not getting my monies worth :O)

This is one of the "sure indications" that your SR is working! It was one of the first things I began to see while training with Swami Muknananda 30 years ago.

Scientifically this is just a product of your mind, imagination. You
primarily saw "black" and then any light that filters in that your eyes
catch will be a color - since it is not a pure light you are 'seeing"... in
meditation it is really about visions that are felt not seen - and
longer term benefits. However, if you feel you saw an aura or the
universe or the swirl was some key, whatever - whatever gets you
motivated and excited about continued practice is good!

Seeing a swirl, or not - is not a measure of your depth of meditation.
It just is a common thing when eyes are closed. Next time you fall
asleep or are at the beach resting, be aware of it - you'll see what I
mean! It is about the eyes being closed and focusing on the LIDS
than it is about depth of meditation.

SR has been great. I've been in 'remission' now for three years. It's great not having to go see my endo once a month and being asked if I want to do RAI. A friend of mine chose to do RAI and she now has pituitary cancer. She told me she wished she would have done what I did. It's so sad to see her struggling.

I now only need to do SR once a day, about four days a week to feel balanced. It's all been worth it.

I tend to agree. Purple spots, starbursts, bubbly brights in the corners of the eye due to deteriorating retina are ordinary occurrences.

I found it by accident. 8 or 10 years ago I bought a Chi machine and used it whenever I wasn't traveling. I found that when the machine would turn off after 5 minutes I got a energy flow up and down my legs and arms for about 1 1/2 minutes. I liked the feeling so I would lay there and enjoy it. After some research and coaching from Walt and Jan, I gave SR a chance. Still using the Chi machine, I could extend the energy flow for 5 minutes, then 8, then 12. Now I no longer use the machine and can stay in the Alpha zone up to an hour. I have tried CD's, but I find that I really don't need them and CD's will limit your SR time and I prefer to set my own time. Quite often my body will want to go into the Alpha state and will if I let it. I now can reach the Theta zone. Not all the time, but when I do, is when I have meditation experiences. Sometimes my insides will shift or realine. I have been on the massage table and my body will jump or pop. It's like sitting on stairs and sliding down to the next level. The first time I did this, Joan, who is my MT said, " What did you just do?" I don't know, maybe Jan or Walt can shead some light on it. I can tell you that over time you will see health improvements. One big change I have noticed is clarty of thinking. I can recall and remember things with ease. I can walk into a business meeting and meet 6 or 7 new people and remember their names. I can return to a account or hotel that I have not been to in 10 years and remember being there and how to get back to the airport. It does make life a lot easier and enjoyable.

Can't be totally sure. But, I've hung around enough people into spirituality that I don't doubt that mystical experiences often happen. I've also been around people having some of those experiences, and didn't doubt their experience for a moment based on what I saw of them at the time.
