Hi Doctor,
I am 33 and was diagnosed with strep 2 days ago. My ENT doc gave me a 5 day treatment course and said I
should be fine. My wife 30, exhibited the same signs I
did a few days prior. She refused even the notion of seeing a med doc. (she is totally alternative med). My problem is: She tells me our 5 year old had a sore tounge,
fever, and upset stomach a few weeks ago. She wrote it off as a virus. My gut tells me he may have had strep and
passed it to us. We rarely get sick but our immune systems have not been up to snuff...(moved, eating junk food, poor
sleep, long hours working etc.) What should I do about my
5 year old? I did not have the facts until tonight. I feel my
submission to her my have not been prudent.

Dear john,
If I were in your sirtuation, I think I would have an ASO (blood) test done on the 5 year old. If it is high, your doc will tellyou what to do next. If not, I would not worry about it.
HOWEVER, your wife needs to remember that "alternative medicine" works a lot better for preventive measures than it does for treatment. "Moved, eating junk food, poor sleep, long hours working, etc.", sounds like a setup for disaster------------not very healthy (or alternative).
Perhaps, when this is going on, it would be better to do "complementary medicine".
Walt

John,
Multi vitamin, esterfied vitamin C, 9 hours of sleep every night with the same bedtime every night, NO ALCOHOL(especially beer) , stay warm(blow dry hair).
These are common things that can significantly improve your immune system or help keep it from being abused. Your body wants to clear up this problem, all you have to do is increase your wellness to the where your resistance is greater than your infection.
Best wishes.
