"I WISH" Ode to Walt

Posted by wendy gorst on March 06, 1999 at 12:54:33:

I WISH: Walt, that you had been around when I was a child and that my parents could have had access to you then. I have been reading about Strep Throat in the archives, and remembering......all those thousands of the most awfully horrible "swollen glands and sore throat" they simpy used to call it in those days. In fact, the sore throats finally began to disappear after I left the home environment aged 21 (MANY) years ago. Just taking one look at my astrology chart one would have SHOUTED - BUILD AND SUPPORT THIS CHILD'S IMMUNE SYSTEM that she shall NEVER develop hypothyroid; ah well, sigh!! I still do have my tonsils (though that was touch and go for a while - almost) lilke a threat - if YOU don't stop these sore throats - then we will put you in hospital and take them out. I ended up with mastoid disease of the ears in hospital anyway at age 5 - lucky I'm not deaf. Do you know what the cure for my sore throats was Walt? You will L O L when I tell you. "Pobs" we used to call it (an old Northern England recipe; warm milk, with WHITE bread and WHITE sugar. Oh, Walt where were you then?????
AND you are here now
AND I still have my tonsils!!
AND I now have a prescription for Natural Thyroid
and so
RENEWED ENERGY to carry on my with my healing plan
AND I am going for my earphones to sart the S-R once again
AND I cancel that last sentence in earler today post about sore throats and aching back. Words are Things.Use the Wisely. My INTENTION is to get well. I heal backwards while looking ever keenly and intently to my future wellness.
Thanks so much Walt for being you and being there.

Hi, Wendy.

Thanks for the kind words.

Milk, white bread & white sugar----OH! MY!

The exact opposite that helps most kids with recurrent ear infections and you STILL survived!

Just shows how different we all are AND how much punishment the human bodymind can take before giving up.

Keep letting us know how you do.

Namaste` Walt

Reminds me of what my mother used to sometimes give to me and my sister and brothers when we were sick - cornbread, crumbled up in a bowl and covered with milk and white sugar. She said it was good for our tummies.

I got it alot because I was always coming down with SOMETHING.

Wendy,

My mother was born in Yorkshire and we got "bread and milk" when we were sick too. As an adult I sometimes craved it when "feeling poorly". It was the ultimate comfort food. But somehow we survivied!!

What should sick kids get?

Walt,

Now that someone has brought up this subject, what fluids should a sick child get? I never give milk. Water is great of course, but when the child is small he loses so much weight if he's not eating much solid food. Juice has lots of sugar. Perhaps homemade broth?

On another "oh my" note: while my son had strep the doctor actually told me to give him soda; basically, give him whatever he'd drink to get fluids into him. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! We never touch the stuff!

Hi, Denise.

For short terms, I see no real risk to artificially sweetened stuff. Just an aspartame tablet in room temperature water can stimulate a larger fluid intake. Don't use the powder since it has sugar in it.

Juice (except vegetable juice) is a no no. Sodas are a joke!

Homemade broth is excellent.

Walt
