My son is 7 years old. He had his tonsils out 2 weeks ago. I don't how common the trouble he has had since is, but he has had so much trouble. He just got back out of the hospital yesterday because he started bleeding. They had to do another surgery on him and it was like started all over again. He also lost so much blood that he had to be given blood. I almost lost my son from a simple operation and I had never heard of this happening before. I am very sure that this seldom happens but It does happen and it isn't talked about. I know for the most part a tonsillectomy is worth it but I surely wouldn't want to go through what I have been through again.

Dear Joyce,
This is NOT unusual although it IS a lot less usual with highly experienced surgeons.
If everyone was told about the complications of tonsillectomy, they might see a good Chiropractor or Naturopath early on so that it would not be necessary.
The likelyhood is that removing the damaged tissue will not solve WHY the tissue got damaged in the first place.
If you are interested in starting to figure THAT out, you might go to the FAQ page & read one note: "Sugar & Immunity". THEN, if that piques your interest, reading my book would be a good place to start. The resources in the back would go as far as you would ever need to prevent this from happening again.
Tonsils grow back, you know. Some more than others. The only reason for removing tonsils is if they have become so damaged that they are causing some of the problem. The tonsil tissue that grows back is normal. However, if the mechanisms that damaged the first set are still there, they will damage the regrown tissue OR, even worse, cause allergies or other more serious immunological conditions later in life that we MDs can then treat later.
