What is best way to test adrenal glands?

Posted by AllisonH on May 05, 2002 at 13:49:33:

What is the best test to get accurate measure of
adrenal function? Are there any home type tests that
are good? I just know my doctor (well I should say my
HMo) will not order a test at my request. But I feel very
tired in the morning and have a hard time waking up for
about a year now and I heard that that can be a sign of
impaired adrenal function.

I can't say which test is best. They all have advantages and disadvantages. I firmly believe that your best bet is to simply TREAT and TAKE CARE of your adrenals. They WILL heal. Here are some simple steps:

1. Get to bed by 10pm
2. Consume Celtic Sea Salt with foods
3. Whole Foods Diet
4. Whole Food supplements that can fill your nutrient gap
5. Practice SR 2x daily
6. Get 1 hour of exercise per day.

Do these and your adrenals will be functioning normally inside a few months. If they don't, you can add some licorice root. It is the best adrenal tonic available. But, without doing those that I listed above, the licorice root will be in vein. Take Care

In general, Low blood pressure is a better indicator of poor adrenal function than simply having fatigue as a symptom.

Thanks for your suggestions. Interesting about low
blood pressure being more indicative of adrenal
fatigue. I tested mine three times today out of curiosity,
it was 110/70 each time, so I guess that is low but in
the good sense, not too low. When I was younger it was
always 120/80. Strange that it would go down with age.
I thought BP was likely to go up. I will take it tomorrow
when I wake up to see how it is in the morning. When I
first get up is when I feel the most exhausted and
sometimes a little woozy and out of it for the first hour.
Maybe it's just old fashioned aging!

I am following the wellness plan with great results in
many other ways. I may try adding the licroice root to
see what happens (and the Celtic salt).

Thanks again for your input.

Thanks, HY.

I could not agree more!!!!

What IF all the tests come back normal?

That would not change the cause of the symptoms!

I went to a doctor last Friday who did a complete physical on me. Part of it was testing blood pressure. My blood pressure has always been very low (90/58), to which no doctor has ever commented on except that I should feel lucky. This doctor that I saw on Friday had me lay down for about 5 minutes with a pillow under my legs. My blood pressure read 100/60. Then, she had me stand up and my blood pressure dropped to 82/60. She said that this shows that my adrenals are not working properly.

HY, I have printed out your protocol and the things I am not following are 1, 4, 5 and 6. I'm on the road though and hope to implement them this week. If I implement all of the items in your list, how long does it take before the adrenals show improvement?

Saliva tests are the best. Sabre Sciences is one of labs that will do that without a doctor's Rx and will interpret results. You might benefit from a full hormone profile test.

If you find your adrenals week or exhausted, you may want to contact Dr. Greene at www.dcnutrition.com for recommendation of some Biotics Research products to restore your adrenals. He'll most likely recommend some glandular extracts.

Also, maca can be helpful in rebalancing the whole endocrine system.

The lie down/stand up blood pressure reading is a good way to assess adrenal function. According to that test, yours are stressed but certainly not completely exausted. I have seen drops by over 40 points and more in people. The ideas I presented shoule have your adrenals working better in a few months. If not, there are other modalities but you should try those first

I've read about this test as one for assessing thyroid function.

The blood pressure test for thyroid? hmmm. Not that I know of. Temperature seems to be a better indicator for thyroid but if you know something I don't...

take care
