Help with Stress

Posted by Steve on June 11, 2003 at 13:04:21:

Most on this board are working on handling stress ( diet excercise SR )..But I know theirs lots of other tricks to make our days less stressful..I will start, feel free to add to the list..

Set out items to be worn the next day..Shirt, tie, dress, shoes ect..

Make a list of things to do for just one day..Shopping, banking, see grandmother..

Anticipate your boss..Get those reports done early..

Take time each day to talk to your wife, husband, friend, dog or cat..Remember God gave you two ears and only one mouth, so listen twice as much as you talk..

Set a side some quite time each day for yourself..

Ok, your turn..Steve

Good list Steve, I do lots of these things myself.

It doesn't help to put my lunch together the night before, and then, 1/2 way to work, or in the parking garage at work, realize I left my nice salad in the fridge. Let me tell you, my stress level shoots up because I immediatly start thinking what I can possibly find to eat for lunch.....I usually resolve things by taking 2 hours off and just leaving for the day and sitting down to my nice salad once I've gotten home.

Good Stress and bad.

Interesting how there can be good stress. Bad stress makes
us knot up and the good kind has a freedom, pushing us to
do things.

Balance your life, too.

Do some of everything every day. Or if you absolutely can't do that, at least set aside a few hours one evening or weekend day to relax or daydream alone, spend time with family or friends, work on hobbies, watch the clouds or stars, whatever it is you don't get to do much of.

I always felt like I was too busy for this, but I was surprised how easy it was to fit in when I made it a priority, and what a difference it made in my outlook.

It's nice to be organized and save time. However, it has little to do with the types of stress related illnesses that many people on this board are dealing with.

Thanks, Vince.

Acute stress "good". Chronic stress "bad". There are whole books written just to explain this difference.

If you make a mistake, don't beat yourself up over it.

Find something funny to watch on TV -- Stand up comedy, funny videos, bloopers, cartoons, etc.

Make funny faces in the mirror. I've cracked myself up doing this...haha

Play a game(s) with your family and friends.

Don't cook tonite -- order carryout.

Take a long bubble bath listening to music you find soothing.

Yes but, it's like taking spoon to rid the water of a sinking boat. Wouldn't it be better to "patch the hole"? Poor diets, lack of exercise, exposures, unhealthy lifestyles are the real culprits. Not neglecting to get your wardrobe around the night before.
