I have been waking up in the middle of the night with a very very fast fluttery heartbeat, severe shaking (a lot like when I have come out of general anesthesia after surgeries), full body pins and needle numbness/tingling, and very bad anxiety.
I remember the dreams that I had prior to waking pretty vividly and none were disturbing in fact some were quite pleasant.
The only thing that I did differently was taking a B-50 supplement the day that the first incident occurred. I stopped taking it to try to determine a correlation, but these have continued to happen several nights lately.
What does this mean?

you may be going hypoglycemic (experiencing low blood sugar) during the night. Store brand blood glucose meters are down to $15, no prescription required. You might want to get one and do a blood sugar reading (takes a finger prick) when you wake up feeling that way-not something a lab test is good for as you need to take it right then.

Hi P,
It could be hypoglycemia, but to me it sounds like it could be stress catching up with you. I gather you have started taking B complex because you are stressed? (They are known as stress vitamins). Maybe it's even something like dysautonomia (see archives).
In any event, if I had those symptoms (I've had similar ones for years, almost gone now), I'd be working on doing things that relax the nervous system. Are you doing relaxation practices?
Best wishes,
Jan

When this used to happen, I started eating before bed. Even though lots of literature says nono. It stopped my problem. (It was a long time ago) I`ve read that you can go hypoglycemic if you have sugar/carbs before bed, but I usually don`t eat/drink those. Proteins and fats take a lot longer to digest, so add to your blood sugar supply for a longer time. Anyway, it would be interesting if that could help you.

It could be stress, but I had a massage that first day too. The day I took the first B-50 pill.

Well, I started taking the B vitamins because I have been in a rather onerous school load and I worry that I am missing things from my diet. Additionally, I am told that I may have PCOS, but even then there are things that about my reproductive imaging and such that suggest something other than PCOS might be going on as well. Anyhow, since B vitamins are important for the health of the reproductive system, I thought I would see if it was benefical at all.
I am not quite sure that I am eating before bed, but I have always tended to have a far stronger appetite from late afternoon through mid-evening than I do in the morning and earlier afternoon, so it is possible that I am eating or snacking more later at night and not really taking conscious note of such.
The really worrisome thing for me was that my heart was so fast and fluttery that I was afraid to even get out of bed. Also, while I have had pins and needle feeling associated with anxiety, I really never had it throughout my entire body from head to toe before.

You could read my response to lmd if that sheds additional light on the situation for you.
I have been implementing all kinds of relaxation techniques. I don't know whats wrong with me anymore.

Hi P:
I've been meaning to post a followup to one of your last rounds of posts before the board was down. I believe I mentioned Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer, and you said you had read it. If you happen to have your own copy, there's a reference that you might want to check. I don't have my copy here by the computer, but I looked it up last night. Look in the index under "alpha," and I believe it's the first listing--maybe p. 122. If you can't find it or you don't own a copy of the book, let me know and I'll post the passage.
Anyway, in general, it's a passage about personality and stress. However, the part I'm referring to is about alpha brain waves and how you can work with a skilled practitioner to determine whether your body is responding to the alpha state that your brain is experiencing. Basically, I took it to mean that it is possible for the brain to be reaching alpha but that the body is not responding as it should (could be just the vascular system or the muscular system, etc.).
Clear as mud? Anyway, consider the possibility that even though you have been practicing SR that you may need to work with someone to help you determine whether your body is responding. I remember that you worked with someone (a college professor?) to verify your SR, but if you were just checked with EEG, you wouldn't know whether your body was responding.
I've gotten the impression that you've been experiencing long-term, chronic stress, which has been increasing in intensity over the past few months. It seems possible that stress could be the root of a lot of what you are experiencing.

Sleep Apnea sounds like a possibility. You stop breathing for a while and then wake up to find that your heart is pounding like crazy. Husband and I both have it. Sleep studies and neurologists help with the diagnosis.

I don't know how much it could relate but with the first B-50 pill, I had fluorescent yellow urine for about a day.
Additionally, for the first time in a couple of months I have had a very heavy period as opposed to the almost nonexistant ones that have been occurring lately.

But the point being if my body is responding to the technique, why I am I having these episodes in my sleep?

How do you know for sure that your body is responding?
