I am a 30 year old female with a average heart rate of 90bpm. All my other friends seem to be much lower then mine. I've been working out alot trying to slow it down but It seems to be taking a freaken long time.
IS 90bpm anything to worry about? I've read that an adults average heart rate is anywhere between 60-100. 90 is on the high end ... so am I really normal? I've had heart tests, blood work and they all come out A-ok.

Hi, dwizard.
How long have you been doing aerobic exercise for 20 minutes 3 times a week?

20 minutes, every day for a month now. Never in my 30 years do I remember my heart pumping slower than this pace.

Thanks, dwizard.
Please explain to me exactly how you calculate your Aerobics (TM). Something MAY be wrong here.

= .75 X (208-age(30) - restingheart rate(90))+ resting heart rate(90)
= .75 X (88)+ resting heart rate (90)
= 66 + resting heart rate(90)
= 156
That is the calculation that is written on a bulletin board at my gym.
I usually keep my heart rate between 156 and 162 for 20-30 minutes. My trainer wants me to up it to 40 minutes.

Also wanted to add that last night I woke up at 3 am and checked my heart rate. It was down to 80 beats per minute. Much better than 90. My goal would be to get that down to 70 in the next few months.

Great dwizard! You are doing the right thing.
Now, all you need to do is give it time. It takes 3-6 months for the results you are seeking. Your trainer should have told you that instead of suggesting that you up your time to 40 minutes. Dr Cooper, the doc who invented Aerobics, says that 20 minutes 3 times a week is the most effective duration when done Aerobically.
Patience and perseverence saves the day. As my dad used to say: "Learn to labor and to wait."
Let us know how you do.
